Reasons for the plantations.
A
- Monarchs were tired of the Irish attacking the Pale.
- Plantation was a cheaper and sometimes more effective wat of taking over a country, instead of in war.
- Spread the reformation, fear Catholic Ireland could side with Spain in recent conflicts.

Why did the Munster Plantation fail ?
A
- Queen Elizabeth I expected that 20000 English settlers would come to Munster but only 4000 arrived.
- Many undertakers rented land to Gaelic Irish tenants who were willing to pay more rent than English settlers. They also employed Gaelic Irish servants because they were willing to work for lower wages.
- Some undertakers got huge estates which they could not defend properly.

- Servitors-Englishmen and Scots who worked for the government in Ireland. Many were soldiers.
