Plants Flashcards
Name some features of a plant
Stem, leaves, roots, flowers, fruit and seeds
What is photosynthesis?
Where plants use Carbon dioxide, light and water to make food for themselves through the sun
Name some parts of a plants cell
Nucleus, chloroplast, cell membrane, vacuole, cytoplasm, mitochondria and cell wall
Can you suggest how leaves are adapted for quick diffusion of carbon dioxide to reach all cells for photosynthesis?
- Lots of stomata
- Thin leaves for easy gas diffusion
3.spaces in leaf for gas diffusion
Suggest when in a 24 hour period the stomata will be open or closed
Open: daylight to let in carbon dioxide
Closed : night as there is no light for photosynthesis
What do the guard cells do
control opening and closing of stomata and therefore how much carbon dioxide gets in
What happens if the plant loses too much water?
The leaves will wilt if this happens for a long time then the plant won’t be able to photosynthesise and die
Where do chemical reactions occurs
Cytoplasm
Which part Contains DNA that contains information to control the cell
Nucleus
Contains cellulose to give the cell strength and support
Cell wall
Contains sap to provide support for the cell
Vacuole
Decides what goes in and out of the cell
Cell membrane
Contains chlorophyll to trap light and be the sight of photosynthesis
Chloroplasts
Uses of glucose 1 respiration
Respiration - process that releases energy from glucose
2 cellulose
Used to make plant cell walls
