Plastics Flashcards
(5 cards)
What are polymers?
Polymers are long-chain molecules formed by joining many small, repeating units called monomers held together through chemical bonds. They can be natural (like proteins and rubber) or synthetic (like plastics).
What are plastics?
Plastics are common examples of synthetic polymers, used widely in everyday products.
What is addition polymerisation?
Addition polymerisation is a chemical reaction where unsaturated monomers (with C=C double bonds) join together through an addition reaction to form a polymer.
What is a monomer?
A monomer is a small molecule that joins with other monomers to form a polymer.
What is a repeating unit?
A repeating unit is the smallest section of a polymer that repeats to make up the entire chain.
