Stanza
Stanza is a verse or paragraph for poems.
Assonance
Assonance is when a vowel sound is repeated. Eg. Lightning ignited in the indigo sky
Alliteration
Alliteration is when a consonant sound is repeated
Lambic pentameter/ rhythm
Lambic pentameter/ rhythm is the constant beat of the poem.
Onomatopoeia
When you write the sound exactly like the sound they make. Eg. Crash, Swoosh, Bang
Repetition
When words or phrases are repeated but on purpose for added effect.
Rhyme
Rhyme is when you have words that sound the same. Eg. Time and limed
Hyperbole
Hyperbole is an exaggeration. Eg. I’ll love you forever
Metaphor
Metaphor is when you describe something as something else without using ‘like’ or ‘as’. Eg. The moon is a face watching everything
Simile
Simile is when you use ‘like’ or ‘as’ to compare something to something else. Eg. She smile was as bright as the sun
Symbolism
Symbolism is when you use well known things to describe something. Eg. Roses symbolises love, our school logo symbolises our school and Australia’s flag symbolise Australia.
Personification
Personification is when you give human characteristics to non-human things. Eg. The flames licked the windows.
