Refrain = a line or phrase that is repeated at regular intervals.

Assonance = internal rhyme usually centred on vowel sounds.

Consonance = recurrence of constnant sounds in close proximity in line of poetry.

Caesura = punctuation in the middle of a line.
• important moment or contemplating something
• inconsistency & uncertainty

Enjambment = no punctuation at the end of a line.
• fluidity & stream of consciousness

Half Rhyme = when the words look like they should rhyme but don’t.
creates discord

Internal Rhyme = rhyme within the sentence.

Free Verse = doesn’t have the traditional look (format) of a poem.

Blank Verse = when the poem has a rhythm but no rhyme scheme.
