3 most common errors whike palpating to assess a tissue?
Lack of concentration on what being touch; Too much movement of palpating fingers; Using excessive pressure on palpation
The 4 T’s of Palpation:
Temperature; Tone; Texture; Tenderness
Pain associated with nerve root compression; usually sharp shooting and may accompanied by neurological signs like tingling, paresthesia.
Radicular Pain
Pain from superficial tissue damage, may described as sharp, bright burning and well-localized.
Cutaneous Pain
Pain from muscles, tendons, joints and periosteum; more diffuse and may referred to other areas of the body.
Deep somatic pain
Pain arises from visceral distension or ischemia or strong, abnormal GI contractions; often diffuse.
Visceral Pain
Pain that may come from cutaneous, deep somatic and visceral, occurs in remote tissue from original lesion or injury; well localized
Referred Pain
Pain that is believed to arise from emotional state or psyche but is experienced as thought it originates from organic disorder
Functional or Psychogenic Pain
