What is addition polymerisation?
The formation of a very long molecular chain by repeated addition reactions of many unsaturated alkene molecules
How do you draw the monomer?
With a double bond between carbons then the rest of the molecule with an ‘n’ on the middle left
How do you draw the repeat unit?
With the C-C bond in the centre, the other bonds vertical and one bond from either side of the C crossing the outer square brackets. Also, a small ‘n’ on bottom right hand corner
How do you show bonds between each monomer with skeletal formula?
With wiggly lines
What are the 2 methods of polymer disposal?
Landfill and processing
What are the two ways polymers are processed?
Used as organic feedstock for the production of plastics and other organic molecules or used as a fuel to produce energy
What are the 3 types of novel polymers
Bio plastics, biodegradable polymers and photodegradable polymers
