POP HEALTH Flashcards
(8 cards)
Risk
Shows probability of getting a disease over certain period of time, where the number of exposed and diseased subjects are divided by total number of exposed (at risk) subjects.
Effect modification
External variable positively or negatively impacts effect of a risk factor on disease of interest. For instance, risk of venous thrombosis is increased with estrogen therapy, and this effect is augmented by smoking.
Post-hoc analysis
Performing unplanned statistical tests that were identified after the fact in data from completed study. This can lead to incorrect conclusions, particularly if the appropriate statistical measures have not been taken to account for these additional tests.
Requirement for hospice
Requires survival prognosis <= 6 months
Cluster anlaysis
Grouping of different data point to similar categories.
Usually involves randomization at level of groups rather than at level of individuals.
Parallel study
Randomizes one treatment to one group and a different treatment to the other group (eg treatment drug to one vs. placebo to another). Usually no other variables measured.
Factorial design
Involves randomization to different interventions with additional study of 2 OR MORE variables.
Attributable risk percent
ARP = (RR-1)/RR
