Q

Domestic language combined with war imagery

A

“onto your lapel, crimpled spasms of paper red, disrupting a blockade of yellow bias… blazer” “selloatpe bandaged around my hand” “graze my nose” “reinforcments of scarf, gloves.”

“spasms” - pain and suffering “blockade” war word meaning blocking off something. The combination of casual and war language shows how this fear is inflitrating her everyday life of things as simple as a blazer.

“bandaged” - she feels wounded by this loss

“graze my nose” - an innocent act of love combined with the harsh imagery of graze showing the pain she feels at remembering her son.

All shows how this suffering is constantly in her mind it is in everything she sees and does.

Q

Simile

A

“the world overflowing like a treasure chest”

Sense of excitment but it is a childish image perhaps suggesting he is naive and unaware of what he is truly excited for. And the word “intoxicated” suggests he is not fully aware of what the reality of war is so he is being whisked away in it.
