What is birth rate?
The number of people born per 1000 people
What is death rate?
The number of people who die per 1000 people
What is population growth rate?
The speed at which the population increases
What is natural increase?
The difference between the number of births and deaths in a year. It is negative when the number of deaths is more than the number of births
What is a Cartogram?
A map where territories are resized following the maps subject, eg. population
What does projected mean?
Predicted or estimated by what’s already known
What is ageing population?
The growth in the proportion of older people in the population
What is population structure?
How many males and females of different ages are in a population
What is life expectancy?
How long people are expected to live
What is migration?
Movement from one place to another
What are immigrants?
People who move into another country
What are emigrants?
People who move out of a country
What is net migration?
The difference between the immigrants and emigrants in a country
What are descendants?
Relatives born after someone
What is persecution?
Treating people badly because of their beliefs or race
What is an economic migrant?
Someone who migrates to earn money
What is a social migrant?
Someone who migrates for family or relations
What is a refugee?
A person who has been forced to leave a country to escape war, persecution or natural disaster
What is an illegal immigrant?
Someone who has arrived in a country without permission

A person who has left their home country as a political refugee

A group of people who share the same language, culture, religion or traditions
