- Baixo Corgo ( Coolest and Wettest -lowest quality of the 3)
- Cima Corgo [around Pinhao] (the best of the three)
- Douro Superior ( Hottest and Driest)
What are the best soil for Port grapes?
Schistose soil are the best with granite being the worst soil in planting.

Explain Ruby Port
The youngest and least expensive. Ruby in colour.
Aged for min. 4 years in woods.
Sweet style of port and meant to be drunk young
Elaborate on Late-bottled Vintage ( LBV)
-Typically port made from a single year. Aged for between 4 to 6 years in wood.
-Both vintage and year of bottling MUST be stated on label.
-May or may not be filtered before bottling, hence may or may need to be decanted.
What is Envelhecido em garrafa?
aka Bottle Matured. a LBV port with min of 3 further years of maturing in Bottle.
Vintage Port
Port made from a single Exceptional year.
-matured for a min 2 years in wood before bottling.
-will mature in bottle for 10-15 years , some may up to 40 years.
- deep purpole in colour, sweet, full bodied with abv bet 20-22%
-ALL VP must be decanted before serving as there would be heavy sendiments.
- 1966. 1967, 1970, 1975, 1977, 1980, 1982, 1983, 1985, 1991, 1992, 1994 , 1997, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016
Single Quinta (Off Vintage)
Produced in years when there is no declared vintage.
Wines are made in the same way as vintage port, but sold under their quintas name.
Sometimes may be as good as vintage port as well yet less expensive.

Tawny Port
Blends of wines from several years.
Commercial tawnies are made from blending of White Port and Ruby Port to get the tawny color
Fine Old or Aged Tawny Ports
- Blending from several different years, matured in cask for min 7 years .
- Labelled as 10, 20, 30 or over 40 (indicates the average age of the wine in the barrel)
Colheita Port
Tawny port made from a single vintage.
Matured in oak for min 7 years.
