No, she was not sentimental. She did not talk to him and kept reciting her prayers.
What was the last sign of physical contact between the author and his grandmother?
She kissed him on his forehead at the railway station. That was the last physical contact between them.
What change came over the grandmother in the evening when the author returned?
Rather than reciting prayers like she usually did, she started playing music and singing songs of homecoming.
Why did the grandmother refuse to talk to anyone the next morning when she was taken ill?
When she was ill she thought her last time had come, and since she had already skipped her prayers the day before, she didn’t want to do the same again. So she kept praying and telling the beads of her rosary.
How did the sparrows express their sorrow when she died?
All the sparrows gathered around the grandmother/s body which was covered in a red cloth. There was no chirping. When mother gave some bread to them, they did not eat it. When grandmother’s body was taken away, the sparrows flew away.
