Describe Vinho Verde DOP

A

Portugal > Northwest Portugal > Atlantic coast near Minho > Cool maritime > Granite, schist > Loureiro, Trajadura, Albarino > Vinho Verde DOC: Light-bodied, high-acid dry white. Often slightly effervescent. Alvarinho-based wines (esp. from Monção e Melgaço subregion) are fuller and more structured.

Describe Douro DOP

A

Portugal > Northern Portugal > Along the Douro River, east of Porto > Hot continental > Schist, granite > Touriga Nacional > Douro DOC: Dry red and dry white. Powerful, structured red blends. Also the origin of Port (fortified wine) from the same grapes.

Sub regions: Baixo Corgo, Cima Corgo, Douro Superiore
