positioning Flashcards
(5 cards)
position for patient receiving an enema or rectal irrigation
left sims to allow solution to flow by gravity in the natural direction of the colon
positioning of patient with amputation of the lower extremity
during first 24 hours after amputation, elevate the foot of the bed (stump is supported with pillows but not elevated bc of the risk of flexion contractures) to reduce edema. after the first 24 hours, the limb is placed flat on the bed to reduce hip contracture. edema is controlled through limb-wrapping techniques
positioning of patient with autografts
autografts are ELEVATED and IMMOBILIZED following surgery for 3-7 days,. this allows the autograft time to adhere to the wound bed, and elevation minmizes edema
safe position for pt with DVT
elevation of leg facilitates blood flow by the force of gravity and also decreases venous pressure, which in turn relieves edema and pain.
positioning following a total hip replacement
abduction is maintained when the client is in a supine position or positioned on the nonoperative side. internal and external rotation, adduction, or side lying on the operative side is AVOIDED
