Post compartment Deep & Superficial - Lower leg Flashcards
Flexor Hallucis, Flexor Digitorum Longus, Tibialis Posterior, Plantaris, Soleus, Gastrocnemius (35 cards)
Flexor Hallucis Longus: Origin?
Distal ⅔ of posterior fibula and interosseous membrane
Flexor Hallucis Longus: Insertion?
Distal phalanx of 1st toe
Flexor Hallucis Longus: Nerve?
Tibialis Anterior S2, S3
Flexor Hallucis Longus: Bony Landmarks & Ligaments
Tibial Fibula
Flexor Hallucis Longus: Resisting the muscle?
Place one hand on the sole of their foot and ask them to push their big toe downward against your resistance. Apply gentle pressure to resist the downward movement.
Flexor Digitorum Longus: Origin?
Middle, Posterior surface of tibia
Flexor Digitorum Longus: Insertion?
Bases of distal phalanges of toes 2-5
Flexor Digitorum Longus: Nerve?
Tibial nerve (S2, S3)
Flexor Digitorum Longus: Functional Movement
Phalanges of toes 2-5
(curling them downward)
Flexor Digitorum Longus: Bony Landmarks & Ligaments
Tibia, interosseous membrane & Distal phalanges of toes 2-5
Flexor Digitorum Longus: Resisting the muscle
Stand beside the patient. Place one hand on the sole of their foot and ask them to curl their toes downward against your resistance. Apply gentle pressure to resist the curling movement.
Tibialis Posterior: Origin?
Interosseous membrane, posterior surface of tibia and fibula
Tibialis Posterior: Insertion?
Navicular, cuneiforms, cuboid, bases of second, third, and fourth metatarsals
Tibialis Posterior: Nerve
Tibial nerve (L4, L5,S1)
Tibialis Posterior: Bony Landmarks & Ligaments
Tibia, fibula, interosseous membrane & Navicular, cuneiforms, cuboid, bases of second, third, and fourth metatarsals
Tibialis Posterior: Functional Movement
Inversion and plantar flexion of foot, supports medial longitudinal arch
Tibialis Posterior: Resisting the muscle
Place one hand on the inner side of their foot and ask them to turn the sole of their foot inward against your resistance. Apply gentle pressure to resist the inward movement.
Plantaris: Origin
Lateral supracondylar ridge of femur, oblique popliteal ligament
Plantaris: Insertion
Posterior surface of calcaneus via tendon calcaneus (achilles tendon)
Plantaris: Nerve
Tibial nerve (S1, S2)
Plantaris: Bony Landmarks & Ligaments
Lateral supracondylar ridge of femur, oblique popliteal ligament & Calcaneus
Plantaris: Functional Movement
Weak plantar flexion of foot, weak flexion of knee
Plantaris: Resisting the muscle
Stand beside the patient. Place one hand on the sole of their foot and ask them to push their toes downward against your resistance. Apply gentle pressure to resist the downward movement.
Soleus Origin
Head and shaft of fibula, soleal line and middle third of tibia, fibrous arch extending between the tibia and fibula
