Shoulder and Arm Flashcards
(102 cards)
Deltoid: Insertion?
Deltoid tuberosity of humerus
Deltoid: Nerve?
Axillary nerve (C5, C6)
Deltoid: Bony Landmarks & Ligaments?
Clavicle, acromion, spine of scapula & Deltoid tuberosity of humerus
Deltoid: Functional Movement?
Abduction of the arm (raising it to the side), flexion, and extension
Deltoid: Resisting the muscle?
Stand beside the patient. Place one hand on their arm just above the elbow and ask them to lift their arm to the side against your resistance. Apply gentle pressure to resist the upward movement.
`Deltoid: Origin?
Lateral ⅓ of clavicle, acromion, spine of scapula
Pectoralis Major: Origin?
Clavicle, sternum, cartilage of ribs 1-6
Pectoralis Major: Insertion?
Greater tubercle of humerus
Pectoralis Major: Nerve?
Medial and lateral pectoral nerves (C5-T1)
Pectoralis Major: Bony Landmarks & Ligaments?
Clavicle, sternum, ribs & Greater tubercle of humerus
Pectoralis Major: Functional Movement?
Flexion, adduction, and medial rotation of the arm
Pectoralis Major: Resisting the muscle?
Stand in front of the patient. Place one hand on their forearm and ask them to push their arm inward (towards the body) against your resistance. Apply gentle pressure to resist the inward movement.
Pectoralis Minor: Origin?
Third to fifth ribs near their costal cartilages
Pectoralis Minor: Insertion?
Coracoid process of scapula
Pectoralis Minor: Nerve?
Medial pectoral nerve (C8, T1)
Pectoralis Minor: Bony Landmarks & Ligaments?
Third to fifth ribs near their costal cartilages & Coracoid process of scapula
Pectoralis Minor: Functional Movement?
Stabilisation of scapula, assists in depression and downward rotation of scapula
Pectoralis Minor: Resisting the muscle?
Ask the patient to sit or stand with their arms relaxed by their sides. Place one hand on their shoulder blade and ask them to push their shoulder blade forward against your resistance. Apply gentle pressure to resist the forward movement.
Latissimus Dorsi: Origin?
Spinous processes of thoracic and lumbar vertebrae, iliac crest, lower ribs
Latissimus Dorsi: Insertion?
Floor of intertubercular groove of humerus
Latissimus Dorsi: Nerve?
Thoracodorsal nerve (C6, C7, C8)
Latissimus Dorsi: Bony Landmarks & Ligaments?
Thoracic and lumbar vertebrae, iliac crest, ribs & Intertubercular groove of humerus
Latissimus Dorsi: Functional Movement?
Extension, adduction, and medial rotation of the arm
Latissimus Dorsi: Resisting the muscle?
Stand behind the patient. Place one hand on their forearm and ask them to pull their arm backward against your resistance. Apply gentle pressure to resist the backward movement.
