Post-Operative Care (Cardiogenic Shock/ Key Terms) Flashcards
(14 cards)
Define analgesia
the relief of pain without causing an altered mental state
Define nociception
processing of noxious stimuli
e.g: tissue injury
Define pain pathway
a noxious stimuli
e.g: mechanical, thermal and chemical
Define pre-emptive
concept of diminishing postoperative pain by disrupting pain pathways
Define multi-modal
more than one pharmacological class- targets different receptors- improving analgesia improves effects
e.g: pre-med, methadone and ketamin
What are the different types of analgesia?
NSAIDs
Opioids
Local
Alpha 2 antagonists
NMDA antagonist- ketamine
Paracetamol
Define shock
clinical syndrome where circulation progressively deteriorates- vital organ deprive
e.g: deprived of blood flow
What are the 3 different classifications of shock?
Hypovolaemic Shock
Cardiogenic Shock
Distributive Shock
What are the different types of treatment for shock?
depends on loss reasoning
consider overload
fluid replacement- crystalloid/ whole bloods- necessary on tio of crystalloids
What NOT to do when patient is experiencing shock
excerise, apply direct heat, give water orally
What is cardiogenic shock?
faliure of pumping mechanism of heart
Cardiogenic shock causes-
degrenerative conditions of heart muscles- dilated cardiomyopathy
Cardiogenic treatment-
depends on underlying disease,
IVFT contraindicated- no loss of circulating volume
Cardiogenic clinical signs-
heart murmurs, irregular pulsing, tachycardia/ bradycardia
