Post Structuralism Flashcards

Q

How does the ever changing perceptions of reality create culture?

A

Everything we perceive to be normal is built on what is viewed as being normal.
This is the foundation of culture, a set of ideas belonging to a group of people conceived from that group and imprinted on one another.
Because our lives are based on these viewpoints it can be very hard to accept fast changes to them. This creates structure and law.

Q

What is the use of hidden mechanisms to control viewpoints.

A

Schools work forces and the media all play their part in constructing our view of reality.
This begins to feed a collective consciousness of what is right or wrong

The film the Matrix shows how our view of reality could all be a composition of perceptions or images we have been fed.

Q

How can this be used to think outside of the box?

A

Post structuralism isn’t so much helping look outside the box but by its very nature is looking outside the box.

It makes us look at the roots of what we believe, enabling us to see problems from different angles and meanings.
