Q

What are typical mistakes postflop IP as pfr?

A
  1. Random half pot bet sizing
Many different sizing are used (/static bet sizes)
  2. GTO brainwashed without adapting, we should exploit in most situations based on our experience on these spots and reads on our opponent, for example if I get check-raised on the river it’s underbluffed by population.

Postflop, in tournaments, I will never have the same spot vs the same opponent, so being balanced isn’t that important. It’s not like high stakes cash online where the pool is small.

  1. 80-30-60 barrelling eg cbet on the flop a lot, bet only very strong hands on the turn and randomly betting on the river a lot

Cbetting: The tighter the villian’s flatting range the _____

Why?

A

less we c-bet.

Lowest c-bet frequency: UTG vs UTG+1

Highest c-bet frequency: UTG vs BB

It’s about equity advantage (=range advantage). The higher our equity advantage, the higher our c-bet frequency

Q

flop c- betting: When is protection less significant? Give an example. And another example of a vulnerable top pair

A

On dry boards with A/K as top card protection is meaningless, for example, if I have K8 on K52.

A6 on 652 is a very vulnerable top pair that needs a lot of protection.

The lower the top pair, the more protection it needs…

Q

I’m the pfr and i face a check/raise or a raise of my c-bet on the flop.

What should i think about?

A
  1. What’s his position? If he flatted as MP/SB he has a stronger range, if he flatted from BB then his range is less value heavy
  2. What’s the player type? If his X/R stat is less than 15% it’s more value heavy. If it’s 8% he probably has it and I can make a good laydown on the flop already.
  3. How many good turn cards for my range/hand? Am I able to continue on good turns?
  4. His sizing -> Is he setting up a river all in? If he does, then from Ben’s experience he has it most of the time
  5. Never overfold the flop (especially vs BB) -> Start overfolding on the turn (people tend to give up their bluff on the turn because they don’t have the balls to follow through).

Q

What method did Ben offer to analyze manually whether or not to call a river bet? He chose an example where flop went XX, turn B75-C, river B50 and it’s on us, as CO vs BB.

What’s the advantage of this method? What was slightly off with his suggestion?

A

Put manually the range that I have on the river, and then use MDF to calculate the hands I’m going to call or fold. Also, I should input his perceived range and think if he will tend to bluff all these combinations (or more) such that the pot odds are exactly, better or worse than what villian laid out for me on the river.

The advantage is that I’ll learn faster.

What is slightly off is that MDF assumes both ranges are ‘equal’ in a sense, because if one range connects much better than the other, then the weaker range can overfold.

I want to mostly bet the flop for protection if he has JT,KQ etc he does have 6 outs, and I do get thin value from 55,44.

Q

As PFR IP, how should I react to a small sized donks?

What about B50?

A

small sized donks - see them as a check. eg if i had a complete air and i would have c-bet- just raise him.

B50- I should be more careful, although it can be just junk (in the example given,sb donked into his [co] on QT8r board when Ben had KQ and Ben said that if he had AA he would just raise but since he blocks Qx then sb probably just have some junk and he wants to let him keep bluffing)

3 way into the flop, Ben has A4cc on Q73 one club as PFR. What did he choose to do on the flop? Why? What kind of hands do we give up with on this flop and which hands can we c-bet?

A

He chose to bet(!). Because on many different turns he can continue to apply pressure.

Any club,4,5,2,K,A on the turn.

We can c-bet hands with bd flush draw AND backdoor straight draw, and of course our value hands.

Q

What bet sizings Ben uses vs recs postflop and with which hands? Why? Give an example on the river

A

vs recs post-flop, He bets small with his weak value hands and big with his thick value hands in the most unbalanced manner.

On the river, he has 99 on 64JT5 and he bet small IP for value. A good player could punish that strategy by check-raising on the river, but fish do not, and it’s important to get max value from fish.

Ben opens from HJ, BB fish calls. Flop comes J62r, BB donks B50, ben called. Turn is a K, and BB uses the same bet. What did ben do with AQo (A hearts) and why?

A

Ben’s holding is irrelevant - this second bet after the donk is weak, BB almost never has a K with this turn bet and it’s more 6x 2x type of hands, Ben raised as a bluff, and against a fish I want to make it big to make the fish fold.

25
I open from BU, BB calls. Flop comes AA6 two hearts. Do I want to c-bet bluff? With what hands? Why?
Absolutely, it's okay to c-bet here with pure air like T8cc. Because BB will miss this flop so often,so I have tons of fold equity.
26
after betting the flop as BU vs BB on AA6hch turn is Kc. What sizing should I pick?
Villian is never indifferent with Ax, so pick a size to target his 6x - eg a small sizing. In general, be always clear about what part of the villian's range I'm attacking!
27
What should I always be thinking about when I'm betting post-flop?
Be clear about what part of the villain's range I'm attacking!
28
What's the call to action for the playing IP as PFR section?
1. Analyze one calldown on the river hand like ben did (what's the MDF, based on that what hands do I want to call, and what's villian's range-eg do i want to call down tighter or looser than what MDF dictates) 2. Make 1 3-barrel analysis (value/bluff ratio).
29
How do I study in general?
Give it time, take it step by step, focus on one element of the game at a time, Give each spot 2-3 weeks. Take action, and apply active learning and various exercises as suggested. Do at a later stage the "analyze the hand manually" at least once a week
30
What should I think about on the turn?
Whose range does it improve? Is it a good barrel card? Does the turn weakens villian's range? Do I still go for 3 streets of value, or do I pot control? What will be the SPR on the river?
31
Why is thinking about future SPR on the river is important on the turn?
Because with (some of my) value hands, I want to set up a river shove.
32
What should I check back on the turn?
1. Give ups (sometimes [not always] if the turn is a blank I want to give up). 2. When the turn card hits villain's range a lot 3. When I only have 2 streets of value, I want to sometimes check turn (AQ on A45 and j turn, there's no meaning in protecting this hand and I want villain to bluff with KQs KJs type of hands which might have floated the flop). 4. Villian is a calling station (not a good idea to bluff him) or a maniac.
33
When is it ok to fire a barrel on the turn vs recs who are calling stations?
If I bet small on the flop and they have a wide range, then I can often fire a second barrel, even if turn card isn't an overcard. For example on 5T2 9 turn, his second pair becomes a third pair etc. And since I bet the flop small, his wide range didn't really sift.
34
When should I barrel the turn?
-Turn card weakens villain range and improves my perceived range -When I have a lot of equity (OESD) -Villian isn't a maniac or a station -I put a lot of pressure on his stack, especially in the later part of the tournament
35
When should I go for a big turn bet?
When I want to end the hand on the turn and not triple barrel, he will fold his second pair, and if he calls I know that his range is strong.
36
I have A5 on K26 as MP vs BB/BU, turn is a 5, why is A5 a good hand to barrel the turn?
a few reasons. Blocker reasons: 1. I block AK which they might not 3-bet (even though they're supposed to) 2. With the 5 I block K5s,65s which the BB might have flatted Equity: I still have 5 outs when called, in case villian has a K.
37
When can a turn donk be?
Anything- from a strong value hand to a bluff
38
How should I treat a small turn donk from a rec?
Usually it's very very weak(33% pot or less), play aggressively against it.
39
How should I treat a min-donk on the turn?
Treat them as a check, it's usually a bet to "find out where he stands", or buy a card with a bad draw or weak pair.
40
When does it make sense to lead turn from the GTO perspective? Does Ben recommend it and why?
It makes sense when the middle card pairs, which is great for the caller's range. Ben doesn't recommend doing it often as the call, because regs c-bet on the flop a lot, including middle pairs.
41
How should I treat a turn check/raise?
It's a very strong range; I should overfold. Especially against tight positions like EP/MP. The ranges of those positions are A-highs, pocket pairs and broadway heavy, so to be balanced they need to find some A-high bluffs which most people don't. So to those positions just fold even Top/Top, and even a big fraction of my overpairs. -People rarely try to make us fold an overpair. I should always ask,o n how many rivers I can continue. -Don't overfold too much though
42
What's "Flattrich theorem"? How should I use it?
on the turn on a wet board, if villain raises my bet, it's rarely with a draw. It's almost always with a strong value hand. So if they call, they rarely have a strong value hand like a set/two pair. I can take advantage of that on the river since my opponent's range is capped.
43
100 BB deep, I open 98s from LJ, BB calls. Flop comes J75, X/B33/C. Turn is a 3c (two clubs now), X/B66/R122/C River A and BB checks. 82k in the pot,56k behind. If I bluff here, what should be my sizing and why?
If I choose to bluff: -He will never ever fold his strong value hands, as spr is less than 1. Therefore: I need to target his air, like missed flush draws, straight draws etc. -So bet small (25K). Going all in makes no sense, since he's never folding a strong value hand to 68% pot sized bet. Why choose to bluff? -His sizing on the turn (minclick) is more often weak than strong, so it can be often a bluff and not a value bet, then he did check the river.
44
BU vs BB SRP, Ben has JTo. Flop comes T92,X/B33/C Turn 3c X/B50/R100 (minclick)/C River 8, B33, what did Ben do, and why?
We get 20% opt odds so villian has to bluff every fifth time. We have the best bluffcatcher. In GTO it's a pure call. But Ben believes that it's not a bluff even every fifth time (eg one bluff combo for 4 value combos) but more infrequent than that, so he folded(!).
45
Why should I consider a delayed c-bet on dry boards?
Because players don't protect their check flop and check turn range eg they arrive with a very weak range to the turn. So we gain information by checking flop. Also check/call on the turn, is usually done with a very weak range. It's hard to balance it.
46
On the river: What should I NOT think about?
1. Don't feel committed: Just because I invested in Flop and Turn doesn't mean I'm committed on the river. "I called the turn I have to call the river" when river bricks - is another bullshit thought. I always fold the weakest parts of my range. Another bullshit thought: "I fired the turn, I have to fire on the river". DON'T MAKE IMPULSIVE PLAYS. TAKE YOUR TIME.
47
Why should I take my time on the river? Why do people not take their time on the river?!
When it comes to making hard decisions, it's hard to make them fast. People act fast because then they can't blame themselves for making the wrong decision because they didn't have time, so they unconsciously fool themselves - it crushes their ego to take time and then make a wrong decision. Also when we take our time in a stressful situation, it feels physically uncomfortable and we just want to get over with it.
48
What should I think about on the river?
Ask these questions, stop when one question gives me the answer: 1. Who is the villian? is he a reg? a fish? unknown? Many fish don't have a bluffing range so vs them it's easy 2. Where am I within my range? 3. How does villian's range look like? Should I overbluff? Overfold? 4. Any reads/stats for villain? 5. Fallback to GTO but consider population tendencies. Avoid marginal spots in soft fields.
49
96335 we bet flop turn and river, and get check-raised by a fish (pot is 2300 we bet 1400 he raises to 4300). 1.What's the bottom of our call range vs a fish? 2. In general, what's the % of my range that should continue? 3. Why are A9 and AA better calls than TT? 4. How did Ben figure out his calling range based on MDF? 5. How big of an adjustment was it to call only straights compared to GTO?
1. Ben folds anything worse than a straight and boats. 2. Fish bet about a potsized bet, so we continue with about 50% of our range. 3. TT doesn't block any value, A9 blocks 99 and AA blocks A3s 4. He put his betting range on the river at equilab, and started "folding" the worst hands (in terms of blockers, eg fold TT-KK before A9) until he reached MDF. 5. He just folded A9 on top of his "MDF" folds -it's not a huge huge adjustment actually.
50
What could be reasons why people take marginal spots on the river? What's ben advice?
1. They're saying by that that they aren't good poker players so they have to take those marginal spots 2. Ego- they don't like to be "pushed around". Throw ego away, take your time, don't take marginal spots in soft fields
51
What's an exercise to improve my river decision-making?
Take the questions Ben asked, put my range, and then do it manually. I should also input villian's range into equilab to decide if I have a profitable river call or not. Just put in what I expect villian's range to be at that point in the hand. For example, if villain never check-raises AQ on the flop, don't put it as a possible hand on the river, even if it's the nuts and villain bets into us. It will be different than GTO, but it might actually be a better indication than GTO(!). Quality over quantity: it won't help me as much to look at 10 different river spots and see what the solver does vs another solver. Do this exercise enough times, and I'll have a much better feeling for the game going forward.
52
When should I give up on the river? Give an example.
a horrible river card to value bet which improves the villain's range. For example, top pair pairs the board to trips when I have an overpair. Or when flush draws/straight draws got there, two pair (T9XXJ) -On blanks vs donkeys or calling stations don't try crazy bluffs -In low stakes, Don't ever try to bluff someone off a strong top pair or two pair. In high stakes it's very different.
53
When should I barrel bluff the river?
-Good river card to bluff or valuebet, that is good for my range (Concepts from turn apply to the river eg weakens my opponent's range, hit my perceived range). -Bottom of my range -With good blockers -When villain is capped (especially in spots where he would X/R me with a thick value hand).
54
River: What does it mean "bluff bottom of my range"?
When I pick my bluff range, consider my value range to know the bluffs I can pick, and pick the worst hands I come with to this river in this way first. eg begin with the 6 high draws and add from there. On very draw-heavy boards, I don't want to bluff every single missed draw, or I will be overbluffing.
55
On the river let's say that I want to have 70% value hands and 30% bluffs. How do I find the bluffs?
With equilab, given value range, start by adding bluffs from the bottom of my range first, and fill up those bluffs until they are 30% of my range.
56
When barreling river for value (or building my value range), what should I look for?
-Have >50% equity vs villian's calling range -If I have a thin value range, and lots of X/R possible: check back -Vs XXXBC I can value bet really thinly (top pair no kicker, second pair, maybe even third pair no kicker). -the more wet board, if villain just X/C the more I can discount his thick value range.
57
What should I do in general at low and mid stakes when facing check-raises?
Overfold. Ask where I stand in my range. The larger the bet size, the more I can fold. I should overfold because people have to turn their bottom pair+blocker to the straight into a bluff, which they don't. So they underbluff. Never call when blocking villian's bluffing range. Rather block villian's value range. Don't find fantasy hands (if villain doesn't have the hand in his range getting here like that, it doesn't matter)
58
How do I build my ranges on the river?
Depends on the part of the villian's range I want to attack. Bottom pair/high cards: Go small, along with my thin value bets Strong hands - bet big, along with my thick value bets. In general, the more bluffs I have, the bigger I want to bet.

71
What are typical mistakes that people do as PFR OOP?
1. Not taking positions into account: vs BU flat range we should c-bet more than versus MP range. 2. Over c-betting OOP 3. Afraid of getting raised on the river: Not going thin enough for value, people rather check/call and miss a lot of value vs weaker opponents against which you never get bluffed out of your equity 4. Underbluffing river when flop goes X/B/C X/X Turn 5. Wrong hand selection for c-betting 6. Not protecting their equity often enough (goes hand in hand with 5).
72
Why does checking with value oop on the river vs weaker opponents value-towning ourselves?
Because their weaker hands would call, and their stronger hands would raise. Meaning that there will be betting only when we are mostly beat! So we're missing value by checking, and we are paying him when we are beat. Value towing ourselves. I give villain freeroll.
73
What's a more useful question other than "I don't want to get raised off my hand" on the river
Do I have a value bet , or not? I don't want to get raised off my hand-> FUCK THIS.
74
What should I do when i have a profitable c-bet on the flop, but a hand that is strong enough to go only for 2 streets?
I can check/call with it, especially second pair, third pairs.
75
C-betting as pfr oop: The earlier the villain flats the ___ we can c-bet and the later the villain flats the ____ we can cbet
less, more For example, UTG vs UTG+1 we should have the lowest c-bet frequency. For examples as UTG vs UTG+1 flat range, we c-bet the least (<40%), BU vs CO we bet more (<60%), sb bs BB we bet the most (70-90%).
76
Why is thinking "I am the preflop aggressor" always is wrong? When does it apply?
If the ranges are similarly strong (UTG+2 vs CO for example) then there's very little c-betting (25%). If BU flatted my open as CO, his range would be significantly weaker, so there's more betting.
77
What Ben suggests to do as pfr oop when I have a hand which is good enough for 3 streets of value?
Bet bet bet :) especially with hands that don't block top pair like overpairs, bottom set, bottom two, Ben suggests not to start slowplay those kind of hands. With those hands proper bet size for a river shove (if possible, very deep it's sometimes not possible).
78
Flop betsize: The deeper we are the ____
more often we want to bet bigger we on the flop. In general, think what parts of villian's range I want to attack
79
What does Ben suggest to do with A-high hands with draws (so they have SDV) on the flop as pfr?
Mostly Check/Call (not every time!), I don't want to build a big pot, I want to keep his bluffs in, I want to get some value with my A-highs. If I bet and get called on the flop, i might have to x/fold it on the turn with tons of equity, and if my draw hits it will be disguised as many people bet draws on the flop. I can go for delayed c-bet anyways to target his low A highs and low/bottom pairs. But don't check/call every time, on boards like T32, many times we will get a fold immediately, and on many turns we can keep barrelling as his range has lots of AJ,55 kind of hands.
80
Why is betting A-highs more important in position vs oop as pfr?
Because when I'm in position, it's usually vs BB with a very wide range, so often I'll have the best hand even if I didn't hit anything. OOP, it's vs a much stronger range.
81
With what range do I want to check/call the flop?
weak value hands and only 2 streets of value (also on draw-heavy boards). Or hands that can only get 2-streets of value. With those, bet/check/bet, bet/bet/check also possible but more tricky.
82
When do I check/fold on the flop oop as pfr?
When I have low fold equity and low equity.
83
What to think about when I face a raise as pfr oop?
It's usually strong, especially as my range consists of many strong hands (exception - small raise, very often it's a freezeraise from top-pair-no-kicker, don't make hero-folds vs those small raises). -Another exception is late positions battle: the wider the ranges, the more bluffs On a wet board, play my hands straightforwardly.
84
When should I check/raise on the flop as pfr oop?
When Villian's calling range is similar to his betting range, but I get more value from his bluffs which bet the flop. Polarised! Hands that are worth 3 streets of value, or good draws that can continue on many turns, or hands that block value (third pairs for example which block sets). Don't do it with high equity hands i cannot go broke with (weak flush draws,"weak oesd"-im not sure what that means) because it will be a disaster if we get jammed on or re-raised. Exploitatively, if villain stabs a lot vs a missed c-bet,do it more.
85
as pfr oop (we are at HJ vs BU flat), flop comes T63r. Why is AK okay to check-raise with? Why does Ben doesn't like to do that with 98?
With AK: His stab range is 6x,3x, pocket pairs, so it's similar to his call range preflop. We will put a lot of his range in a miserable position. Also I block AT,KT. So both check/call and check/raise are fine With 98 we block a lot of the hands he does bet for protection (99,88). With 98 villain will call once hands like A-highs and KQs with bd on the flop so it makes more sense to bet it on the flop (and probably bet it against on the turn).
86
What should I think about on the turns?
Take previous actions into account, what kind of hands did opponents get to the turn with, doing it roughly, not exactly. How does turn card hits villian's range, what's my fold equity? what's my raw equity? The more equity I have vs villain's range the less fold equity I need and vice versa.
87
When can I go for a second barrel as a bluff on the turn? Do I need to always keep barreling?
When my opponent's range is weak and contains many A-high/K-high floats, be more careful when the turn card connected with the board like 892 and turn T/J I don't always need to keep barreling. Remember that like when calling down with SDV, it is GTO to give up some bluffs. Some bluffs I continue with, some bluff I can give up, Some bluffs I triple-barrel with.
88
Do I give up the bottom of my range?
Nope, I give up A PORTION of my range. Being at bottom of my range is an indicator to bluff. We pick hands from the bottom of the range that satisfy some requirements like: Are we blocking the top value range, or are we unblocking his fold range? If the bottom of my range doesn't block any value of my opponent then it's a situation where I can throw away the bottom of my range and bluff a little bit up my range eg bottom-middle of my range
89
as oop pfr, Why do i want to check-call some thick value hands on the turn against a good opponent? What do I do vs a fish or a passive reg?
Because I don't want the top of that range to be second pair and below, so that I fold almost all of my range to a river bet (unless i improved to trips or two-pair). vs fish or a passive reg, don't give a fuck about balance and bet all of my value hands.
90
as PFR OOP, I have 88/77 Flop is T63r B33/C Turn is a 9. What are my options?
I can check/call, but I can also check/raise and turn my hand into a bluff: I heavily block 87s, now villain has only 2 combos instead of 4 combos, so I decrease the amount of the nuts by 50%.
91
How do I master poker unconsciously?
I analyze spots outside the table, the more I do it, the more I will be able to do it at the unconscious competence level.
92
How do I determine my river bet size?
Connect the dots from preflop to this spot. If my opponent has a lot of strong value hands, I want to bet big. If he has only a few value hands, bet smaller. Which part of his range i want to attack? If I attack his 2nd pair- go smaller. If I run a big bluff vs very strong hands - go big.
93
What are some thumb rules for bluffing the river?
1. Don't feel committed 2. Block villian's value range (77/88 on T96XX for example) 3. A good river card for my range 4. Villian has many snapfolds If the game is very soft, I want to avoid marginal bluffs, don't try to bluff bad players off their top pairs
94
River bluff barrelling: don't try to bluff people off their _____ _____. Why?
strong hands like two pair/trips. People are bad in poker. Then Ben went ahead and showed a hand where his friend tried to bluff a rec off trips, and the rec call with the worst trips combo (Q2) :D :D :D
95
River as OOP PFR: When should I check/raise for value
In general, do it rarely (I want to value-bet myself most of the time) -When river card hits villian's range: I have a boat and his likely flush draw came in When his calling range is contained in his betting range, but additionally he will bet some bluffs, like bricked draws
96
Should I check/raise a lot as a bluff on the river?
People get curious on the river "what the fuck is he representing" and call a lot, so in general avoid check/raising river as a bluff.
97
When should I check/call river?
I want to bluffcatch when: -Villian's range contains many busted draws -Check hands that don't block villian's bluffing range
98
MARGINAL SPOTS: On the river, if I have a value hand with blockers to his busted draws what do I want to do?
I want to bet myself for value. for example JJ on T9xxx, I've blocking QJ/J8 and it's more likely he has AT,KT etc, so always bet it for value, but KK it's better to check/call with. this is true only for marginal spots which can go either way, in general I want to value bet and not be too fancy
99
as CO vs BU SRP, why is AK a candidate to x/r on J43r?
We block AJ/KJ, we apply a lot of pressure on his underpairs like 66/55.
100
as LJ, SRP, A9ss, BB calls BU calls. Flop 853r X we bet 33% call/call Turn 2, BB X, why can we continue barrelling?
We CAN continue barrelling (ben chose 70% pot) , because we put their 5x and even 8x in a miserable spot - a guy who barrels flop and then turn shows a lot of strength. Ben would never do that if there were two fish in the pot unless he had a lot of equity, because fish are more sticky. Also with A9ss we have two overs and a gutshot in case they continue.
101
77 as LJ vs a fish on CO. Flop comes K93 two spades. What do we do vs a big bet? What do we do vs a small bet? Why?
Vs a big bet we just give up - the board does connect with his broadway-heavy range. Vs a small bet we continue. Not only in theory we continue wider, but he might bet small with stuff like A3,55,66 that we're ahead of. Ben called down when villian bet small turn and river as well.
102
I open 66 from HJ, CO and BU call. Flop comes 994. What does ben want to do?
Bet for protecton/thin value.
103
I open 66 from HJ, CO and BU call. Flop comes 994. We B33/ call / call. Turn is a 6. What do we want to do and why?
Check! a 9 will bet the turn so betting range = calling range PLUS bluffs PLUS thin value/protection hands like 77/88
104
What's the call for action for OOP PFR?
1. Mark 3 hands and make river call analysis: What is my preflop range? Villian? What is my range on the turn? how does my river range look like? 2. Mark 3 hands and make a triple-barrel analysis (pen and pencil, not using any fancy tools).
105
What are typical mistakes as IP PFC?
1. GTO thinking - especially vs weak opponents 2. Floating too wide 3. Wrong hand selection for floating
106
What are typical 3-bet mistakes?
1. Burning money vs tight players with a high fold to 3-bet stat (once they call they have a very strong range). Once this type of player calls, decrease my c-bet frequency and in general be more cautious. 2. Being too afraid to bluff in a 3-bet pot and also - 3. Under bluff vs flop checks 4. Raising too many value hands on flops and turns (this leaves range weaker on the river). 5.
107
As 3-bet preflop aggressor, how many of my hands do I want to c-bet roughly? What's a common mistake there?
i want to c-bet about 50% (depending on the texture this might be way more or way less) of my hands. Many players c-bet too often and forget that the 3-bet caller has many strong hands (suited Ax, suited broadways, suited connectors, pocket pairs and up to AK/KK for some players).
108
as 3-bet preflop aggressor, what if I have a value hand that isn't worthy of 3-streets of value on the flop? What if I have a hand that is worthy of 3 streets of value?
Ben recommends to check if I don't have 3-streets on the flop. If it's worthy of 3-streets then generally speaking, bet-bet-bet (but in general check top sets unless the board is very draw-heavy).
109
In a 3-bet pot, what do I do vs a turn check/raise?
Fold unless i have the needed equity/ implied odds
110
As 3-bettor, the board comes T45 rainbow one heart, what do I want to do with A6hh?
Bet the flop with A-highs with a decent backdoor equity. Continue barrelling on any 7,3,h,2,K In general, when constructing bluffing ranges on a 3-bet pot, we want to be able to continue on many turns.
111
I have QJhh from sb, and 3-bet BU. Flop comes T73r. What do I do? Why?
It's a good candidate for a 3-barrel: I block part of his value range (assuming he's flatting QQ/JJ i block those), and I can continue barreling on many turns: 9,8,K.
112
I 3-bet KJcc as sb vs LJ, he calls. Flop comes A57r no clubs. What should I do?
Without any bd equity - just check/fold. If there was a c on the flop,we would bet it.
113
How do I determine how many bluff combos I should have in a spot?
If villian gets 33% to call, then I need 1 bluff for every 2 value. So if I have 6 value hands I need 2 bluffs.
114
I 3-bet JJ vs UTG as CO, flop comes AJ9r, UTG checks to me, what should I do?
I have a clear 3-street value hand, so bet. Never check back, especially as I unblock top pair. In game, Ben's opponent opted to check, Ben had AK. He is opponent gained 2 streets of value instead of 3-a huge mistake.
115
I squeeze with ATcc, HJ calls. Flop comes A34 two diamond, X/B33/C Turn Ks (two spades now) goes X/X River blank X and HJ goes all in for a little over the pot. What should I do?
I unblock all the flush draws, he's not representing much: A3/33/44 would keep barreling turn, AA/KK/AK probably would 3-bet preflop. Might have A8s but we block those. We have a good bluffcatcher and we are in the top of our range. Call.
116
I squeeze with ATcc, HJ calls. Flop comes A34 two diamond, X/B33/C Turn Ks (two spades now) goes X/X River blank X and HJ goes all in for a little over the pot with 55. What mistake did HJ do?
He didn't think about what part of SB's range he wanted to attack. Since SB is never folding an A, and he wants to attack underpairs like 99-QQ, a half pot sized bet would achieve the same.
117
I 3-bet AQo, flop comes KT7, why is this a good candidate to barrel? What value hands do I block?
I block AK,KQ.
118
In big pots when people jam they usually _____
have it. Even with having the perfect blockers, might be minus ev to call down.
119
I 3-bet KQcc vs CO. Flop comes A66r no clubs. What should I do?
There's no backdoor equity- give up
120
I 3-bet KQcc vs CO. Flop comes A66r no clubs. Flop goes check/check. Turn 2, why is KQcc a good candidate to check/raise?
1. I block the top of his range - AQ/AK. 2. Any other suited KQ I would barrel the flop 3. KQ > KT because KT doesn't block AQ. I have some value hands like AA,AK,AQ, and a random 65s that I can do it with, so a few value combos, to balance that I need some bluff combos. KQcc is the first bluff combo chosen. Ben checked/raised the turn villain called. Ben jammed the river, and villain folded.
121
What does a min bet on the river 1BB do?
It freezes people, but there's a chance it levels people into not raising the river (for example 4 spades Ks Kx didn't raise river to a 1BB river bet!).
122
In his "analyze by hand" on a 3-bet pot with TT, what questions did Ben ask on the flop?
1. How many combinations of hands do we have (hands that called a 3-bet only) - it was 203 combos. 2. Opponent bet half pot, if we followed MDF we would defend 66% of hands. Do we? Nope - we defend less than MDF since his range is stronger as the 3-bettor. 3. What hands do we continue with on the flop? It's okay to not be 100% accurate - and if later on I realize that I arrive with too many hands to the river, I can look again at the turn or flop and see where I continued with too many hands or too few hands and adjust. Or it might be a bad river card and then it doesn't imply that I played wrong 4. Which hands do I want to check/raise with for value and as a bluff?
123
In his "analyze by hand" on a 3-bet pot with TT, what questions did Ben ask on the turn?
1. How many hands do we continue with vs villian sizing on that turn? Given villian's bet size (mdf dictates that against a 2/3 pot sized bet we defend with 60% of hands) and number of hands we reach like that on the turn (122 hands - hands that we only called and didn't check/raise with), we want to continue with about 73 hands. 2. What hands? Think about it with range analyzer 3. Write a conclusion regarding the hand - what are the borderline hands we would continue with? (the hands we continue vs a GTO and fold vs someone who underbluffs, or hands we would call vs someone who overbluffs).
124
How can I know that i called too much on the flop?
If on a turn which is good formy range (a flush completing turn card for example) I still overfold compared to MDF, then I called too much on the flop.
125
How can I know that I overfolded on the flop?
If I want to continue with too many hands in relation to MDF on the turn, then i might have overfolded on the flop (not enough floats, not enough gutshot floats etc).
126
What's the call for action in 3-bet pots?
Analyze 3-bet pots (either ones that I've played or different ones).
