Q

Will I know how to play every spot?

A

Fuck no, some spots i will always be clueless, the goal isn’t to reach a point where I know everything.

When I don’t know something, mark it and analyze it later.

Q

Why is preflop important?

A

Many postflop mistakes are caused by preflop mistakes, Ben’s winning graph went up after correcting preflop leaks.

Q

What are typical mistakes that people make preflop?

A
  1. Ranges too static: Playing their ranges no matter what the table composition is, and not adapting based on lineups,
  2. Not adapting to population tendencies (people defend wider, more pot odds aware
  3. Poor ingame selection: I want to play more hands vs the fish (money comes from the fish)
  4. Open too loose from early and middle positions
  5. Underestimating a solid preflop range
  6. Overplaying Axo from late positions
  7. GTO bullshit and board coverage: I want to have board coverage only against players I play against again and again and again (if I’m only raising broadway and the board is low i cant have nuts). BUT NOT HAVING BOARD COVERAGE isn’t being exploited in low and mid-stakes

Q

Why is the principle of board coverage (GTO) bullshit in low and mid stakes?

A

I want to have board coverage only against STRONG players I play against again and again and again (if I’m only raising broadway and the board is low i cant have nuts). BUT NOT HAVING BOARD COVERAGE isn’t being exploited in low and mid stakes.

So I want to open profitable hands and not think about my entire range.

Q

What are the 3 most important positions that I should look at when I make adjustments? From what position can I make adjustments?

A

BU,BB,SB.

From middle positions (LJ/HJ) I can make small adjustments. From late positions (CO/BU), I make tremendous adjustments.

Q

If BB is very tight and doesn’t defend at the right frequency then i should…

what should I do if he does defend?

A

open wider than the default strategy, as i will print money by just open raising.

But if he does defend then his range is stronger, don’t over c-bet. Remember that I exploit him preflop, if I have borderline c-bet then take into account his tighter range.

Q

Why should I pay attention to the table composition and not watch a movie on my tablet?

A

So I can make adjustments, eg if there’s someone tight behind open looser, if there’s someone aggressive play a bit tighter,

if there’s a loose and passive player (50/20), play tight and playable (postflop) hands if he has position on me, if I have position on him don’t be as tight -im going to print money from him

Q

How did Ben choose the bluff part within the polarized range of the sb’s 4-bet strategy?

A

-Fold the worst hands
-4-bet those hands that aren’t good enough to call, but have equity vs villian’s call range (for example, fold K2s-K7s, 4-bet bluff K8s. same for all suited Q but Q8s/suited Js but J8s),and 4-bet bluff some wheel Ax hands.

Q

If the rejam stack (=smaller stack) is in sb and not bb, rejam probability goes up. Why? What does it mean to our play as BU?

In what scenario do I open tighter from BU?

A

He can jam hands like QJs, K9s etc that if he had in BB he would just call.

From BU it means I want to be tighter.

From CO is both BU and SB have rejam stacks - def open tighter.

25
When BB is a very very tight player, should i implement: 1. Limp/raise strategy or 2. Raise first in only strategy? Why?
RFI only - he's very tight and opening against him will print money. Also, If he's very tight I can widen my open range.
26
In what dream scenario should I open wide from LJ (JTo in the video) ?
BB is a fish, BU,CO and HJ are tight.
27
When having 25BB UTG, why is A5s a better hand to open with than 98s?
A5s has a blocker to the jamming range (AA,AK,AQ), 98s doesn't.
28
When analyzing stack sizes from LJ and considering if I should open or not, BU has a 4BB stack. What should it do to my range?
It's like playing with one less player, so I'm effectively opening HJ range. The CO becomes the "new" BU that I should consider his tendencies and adjust.
29
What's the call to action of the preflop open-raise section?
1. Recreate the ranges from UTG to SB myself, since I have to learn and internalize the default ranges. Do it for: A. Deep stacked (40BB+) B. 25-40BB C. 10-25BB If I don't make that many mistakes I can move on (the goal isn't to be perfect). 2. Write a summary (handwriting) of what I've learnt in this section 3. Goal for the next 4 sessions: IN GAME AWARENESS of the preflop situation (stacks behind, positions, who are the players I'm playing against, adjust to BU/blinds tendencies).
30
What's one of the biggest leaks people have preflop? A. Playing static ranges B. Playing fluid ranges C. Neither
A: Playing static ranges and not adjusting to table composition, tendencies, and effective stack sizes behind, is one of the biggest leaks people have pre-flop.
31
What adaptation should I make vs weaker players? A. Play balanced B. Never bluff C. play more pots vs them
C. Play more pots vs them. I make the most money from fish so I want to play more pots vs fish
32
What do I not want to do from EP/MP? A. Play too tight B. Play too loose
B. Play too loose - there are many players behind me, and I can't profitably play very loose from early
33
What points are benefits of a good open-raise strategy? (choose one or more): A. Being able to play looser from every position B. avoiding tricky spots post-flop playing wider ranges; C. having the knowledge to adapt in different scenarios: D. static range from late positions.
B+C
34
What are the most common pre-flop mistakes? Choose one or more: A. not observing table lineup and stack sizes; B. playing too loose from early/mid positions; C. choosing spots to play vs fishes; D. adjusts based on the BU/CO and blinds.
A+B (C+D are fundamentals to playing a solid preflop game).
35
What factors do we consider when applying mixed strategy from the small blind? choose one or more A. Villain's is tight; B. Villain has a high fold to steal C. Villain is playing really aggressive; D. Villain is a unknown.
C+D if villain is an aggressive reg, since I want to play many hands, I will apply a mix of limp/raise strategy
36
We're in the middle position, the blinds are weak players, and BU is playing 19/14/6. What's our approach here? A. adapt and open a tighter range; B. develop a limping strategy; C. adapt and open a wider range; D. open the ranges from the charts.
For sure C. I want to open wider as I'll most of the time play in position vs the fish in the blinds.
37
We are sitting UTG and the table is full of passive calling stations. What's our adaptation(s)? (Choose one or more): A. raise a wider range; B. play a solid range; C. limp some hands; D. raise a bigger size preflop.
B+C. I don't want to play a wide range OOP, I do want to limp some implied odds hands.
38
We have 17bb at the BU and the blinds are short and playing aggressive. Which types of hands are we using when constructing our opening range? (choose one or more): A. low pocket pairs B. blocker range C. low suited connectors D.off suit Ax
B+D: I want to block their shove range and Ax (and Kx) block that. I don't want to play suited connector hands as I won't get the odds to call a 3 bet or a jam.
39
What adjustments do we make from EP? A. looser B. tighter C. stick to ranges
C. I don't want to make too many adjustments when so many players are left to act.
40
What position is most important when we are looking to expand / tighten our ranges: A. BU B. SB C. BB D. CO
BU, then BB, then SB then CO
41
VPIP, PFR, 3B of 24/20/7 and lower means A. Wide opponent B. Tight opponent C. Good opponent
Tight
42
When a tight player defends, what adjustments do we consider post flop? A. We should play our normal strategy B. We should be aware that his range is stronger post, since he defends less hands preflop C. We should fire away, and pressure tight villain
B - don't be a nit but don't c-bet marginal c-bets for example
43
Tight / Weak Regulars in the blinds we want to.. A. Play tighter B. Play looser C. Play tight and blocker range D. Play GTO
B. play looser - they will allow me to realize my equity more often and opening in general will print
44
Aggressive Regs in the blinds we want to.. A. Play tighter B. Play looser C. Play tight and blocker range D. Play GTO
A. Play tighter
45
When do we want to utilize GTO?
When we have no information and want to stick to fundamentals
46
The shorter we get, the less value we have with..? (choose all correct) A. Pocket pairs B. Suited connectors C. Suited broadway D. Offsuit broadways
A+B
47
With rejam stacks behind, what adaptation do we make? A. Play tighter B. Play looser C. Play GTO
A. play tighter
48
Why are we playing a mix strategy from SB? A. Play less hands B. Play more hands C. To be balanced
B. Play more hands (especially vs a strong opponent in the BB).
49
What positions are we mainly starting to implement limps with short stacks? (choose all that apply)
SB,BU,CO
50
The more reshove stacks behind, the.. A. lower we want our raise / fold gap B. wider we open (and fold vs rejam) C. We stick to the ranges
A
51
If fish are behind, should I tend to 3-bet more or flatcall more? What if there are regs behind?
The EV of flatcalling more increases when there are fish behind (since I want them in the pot as well) so 3-bet less and call more Regs behind is the opposite: 3-bet more and flat less (regs squeeze looser than a fish, go lighter for value).
52
What should I consider when deciding what to do vs an open raise? (fold/flat/3-bet)
1. In game awareness - I want to flat more wideif fish are behind 2. Raw equity vs villian's range (consider both his position and rfi stat, as well as his postflop tendencies-eg if he's aggro postflop, i want to 3-bet more, if he's weak then flat more). 3. Stack sizes : flatting 65s when 25BB deep is spewing money away, the shorter i am the more high cards i want to have, the deeper i am, the more suited/connected i want to be
53
How does the postflop behavior of my opponent affect my 3bet vs flat decision?
if he's aggro postflop, i want to 3-bet more, if he's weak then flat more
54
What’s the golden rule for-How does stack sizes affect my range?
Golden rule: Short stack: be able to continue on many flop for small pots Deeper stack: Fold more flops but (33,54s) be able to play larger pots.
55
What should I do if there are loose 3-bettors or sticky players behind with hands that can bluff 3-bet like A9s,J9s etc?
Don't bluff 3-bet early when those type of players are sitting behind as A9s J9s that they will call with have tons of equity vs my bluffs
56
What should I do if a BU opens more than 50% of hands, or CO more than 32% or in general the players has a high RFI?
3-bet him wider
57
When my opponent opens bigger than the default range, should I flat more or 3-bet more?
I get worse odds to flat, so I should 3-bet more. Of course, this doesn't apply if said player is a nit with a bet sizing. Tell that he has a strong hand every time he opens big.
58
Name a few scenarios in which I squeeze a lot from the SB
MP/LP opens, and LP flat called. a villain with a high RFI opens and there was a flatcall. If UTG range is 14% and the player opens 20% from UTG, I can 3-bet wider.
59
What hands should I squeeze?
Those which are too weak too call, but have reasonable equity vs villian's calling range. For example, I don't want to squeeze T9s,JTs because those are dominated by all suited broadway that the flatter called with like QJs, KQs,JJ,TT. Instead A2s would be much better.
60
How can I determine which hands have a reasonable equity when squeezing?
Take his "call a 3-bet" range, suited broadway, 77-JJ,ATs-AQs, AQo, and see what hands have decent equity in equilab.
61
Do I want to squeeze with blocker hands like A7o and K8s?
Nope. the focus is on equity and not blockers when squeezing.
62
Why do I 3-bet polorized as BB?
Villian's calling range is broadway heavy, so I don't want to 3-bet J7s, hit a top pair, and then bluff catch with it. It's much better to 3-bet hands that aren't dominated, in case he will continue.
63
as BB vs a sticky opponent, which 3-bet strategy do I want to use?
Linear. I don't want to blow up the pot with shitty hands if he's sticky. Instead, I can go thinner for value.
64
What hands can I 3-bet vs BU if he opens 70% of the hands and folds a lot to a 3-bet?
Literally any 2 cards, as 3-betting this type of player will print.
65
The looser/the more an opponent opens the more I want to...
3-bet him
66
100BB deep, CO opens, SB 3-bets, what does Ben recommend to do with 99-JJ?
4-bet for 2-2.5x and fold mostly to a 5-bet.
67
a loose player opens from LJ, and I'm in the HJ with JTs, 35BB deep with opener, but there are two short stacks (11BB) in the CO and BU. What should I do,3-bet or call?
3-bet since BU/CO will shove with 66-88,AJs, hands that they will probably fold vs a 3-bet so I gain an extra fold equity.
68
What's the difference of preflop ranges with and without ante?
With ante there are more chips to fight for in the middle, so play more loose. Without ante, play tighter.
69
What's the call for action in the flat/3-bet section?
Focus on flatting/3-betting on the next 2 weeks. Record a session and review as many preflop decisions as possible, and answer the following for each hand: -Which hands do I 3-bet here? -Which hands should I flat here? -Did I consider the players behind? I can record my thoughts in real time and then review. When I review, ask what i did wrong, what I want to work on, write down my leaks
70
What should we consider when deciding whether to 3bet or flat call our hand? (Choose one or more): A. our specific hand: B. players raise first in frequency; C. player information and table lineup; D. stacksize
All of the above
71
We will prefer to flat a hand when: (Choose one or more) A. there are good regulars sitting behind; B. big blind is sitting out; C. facing an aggressive player post-flop; D. weaker players left to act; E. facing larger open raises;
Only D.
72
We are BU 40bb effective, facing an open raise from MP. Villain is a weaker player, playing very loose and sticky so far. What adaptation(s) can we make? (Choose one) A. fold more hands since he will be also very aggressive post-flop; B. 3bet good hands and add lots of bluffs; C. 3bet thinner for value with fewer bluffs; D. call and play in position; E. 3bet after using the timebank to give an impression of a stronger hand;
C - since he's sticky I want to bet linear, since he's sticky I want less bluffs.
73
We're sitting at middle position with QJs and random player opens from UTG. All players sitting behind are also unknown and we're all playing 100bb deep. Which options are good for this scenario? (Choose one or more): A. fold since there are lots of players left to act; B. call and play in position every time; C. consider 3bet or flat since both can be a viable option without reads; D. 3bet and combine additional fold equity to your hand; E.call since our raw equity vs UTG range is the favorite;
C+D - it's a strong hand when deep, 3-bet sometimes and flat sometimes.
74
When we should consider 3betting a hand? (choose one or more): A. from early positions since 4bet likelihood is lower; B. vs a loose button villain opening 28% of hands; C. vs high raise first in or high fold to 3bet; D. table with lots of fishes and calling stations sitting behind; E. to isolate vs weaker players with strong hands;
B,C,E A- the truth is the opposite with lots of players behind B- if he's opening a lot then he has a weaker range C- high fold to 3-bet and high rfi are both good stats to 3-bet against (weaker range, not sticky enough) D- fish behind is a reason to flat more as i want them in the hand E-self explanatory
75
Regarding squeezing, which factors do we consider? Choose one or more: A. from early and middle positions since our perceived range is stronger; B. vs late positions since ranges are wider hence we have more fold equity; C. when facing stack sizes that are in a 'all-in or fold situation": D. when the hand plays better as a 3bet/fold then call;
A. Not 3-betting vs tight ranges B is true- i can 3-bet wider vs wider ranges C. Yes- I should 3-bet tighter when they are behind D. Yes B-D true
76
Why is it important to be focused and utilize in game awareness? (Choose exactly one): A. Increased win rates through adjustments B. Ensure we're playing GTO C. avoid tilt
C
77
The EV of calling ____ with fish behind A. increase B. decrease
A- increase - fish do lots of mistakes so I want to play more pots against them
78
With regs behind, we want to: A. flat more, 3B less B. flat less. 3B more C. Mix flat/3B and remain balanced
B - if I flat, they can 3-bet lighter for value.
79
What adjustments would we make based on villain with aggressive postflop stats? A. Flat more B. 3-bet more
B. 3-bet more preflop
80
Which statement(s) are correct: A. The shorter we are the more broadway/highcard heavy we want to flat call B. The deeper we are, the more suited heavy and connected we want to flat call C. The shorter we are, the more balanced we have to be D. The deeper we are, the less balanced we can be
A,B
81
The earlier our position, we 3B: A. same B. less C. more
Less - there are many players who can wake up with a strong hand and 4-bet us
82
When isolating recreationals we want to adjust our range by 3Betting... A. polorized B. Linear C. GTP
B- recs in general are more sticky, and I want to make sure that mostly my range dominates their range and not vice versa.
83
We want to 3b smaller IP than 00P? True or false
True
84
We can squeeze lighter when...? A. Villian are deeper B. Villian are recs C. Villian are shorter
C- Villian are shorter, we can put them in a position where they have to play for their tournament life.
85
What are typical mistakes people do vs 3-bets?
1. 4-betting light vs wrong positions: 2.Bad 4bet/5bet sizing vs wrong positions (for example betting oop too small) 3.Going broke vs nits (I can avoid setups by knowing who I'm playing against) - not using 3-bet stats 4.Bad hand selection for 4-bet bluffs 5. Overplaying Ajo/Ato
86
What should I consider when I face a 3-bet?
1. His position for example, Sb's range 3-bet range is way stronger than BB's 3-bet range (In theory! Use players stats to adjust, maybe bb doesn't have a bluff range). 2. His image - I don't need 4-bet bluff range vs nits/fish 3. vs position - the earlier the position he's 3-betting against, the stronger his range is 4. Sizing - the bigger his sizing, the stronger his range, the less we have to defend 5. His stacksize -for example less than 40bb deep we don't setmine anymore 6. Playing deep - it's recommended that i never 4-bet when playing deeper than 150BB.
87
Why do we not like to defend with QTs,KTs,JTs vs a 3-bet by MP but we do want to defend it vs a sb 3-bet?
Villian's MP bluff range is AJs, KQs,KJs so we're dominated even against his bluff range, but sb can 3-bet T9s,87s,76s so we can defend with those hands.
88
Why do I want to avoid 4-bet bluffing most of the time, and when is it ok?
if I open to 2.5BB, villian 3-bets to 7.5 (so the pot is 2.5+7.5+1+1 = 12BB)and let's say that I'm in position and I 4-bet to 18BB. I risk 15.5BB to win 12BB so I need fold equity of 56.3%, if most of his 3-bet range is for value I never get that. It's ok only if villain 3-bets a lot, so i have the appropriate fold equity.
89
If there's a player that folds to 3-bets 60% of the time, and I need 58% fold equity, do I auto-profit when 3-betting him?
Depends from which position! If I'm in the HJ there are 4 players left to act, each one of them can wake up with a hand, so I def don't auto-profit. Like, the true fold to a 3-bet would be not 60% but 44% considering all the other players who can 4-bet me.
90
How many % of the time do we get QQ/KK/AA? Same question but add AK.
QQ+ - 1.36%, QQ+, AK - 2.56%
91
Why is QJs not a good 4-bet bluff candidate while A5s is?
A5s blocks some of villian's 3-bet value range - half of AA is blocked so QQ+ range goes down from 1.36% to 1.11% (18% of this range is blocked), and also blocks AK. QJ blocks mostly his bluffs like JTs QJs QTs
92
Given the fact that QQ+ and AK are 2.56%, from which 3-bet stat should I consider 4-bet bluff (either as opener or a cold 4 bet bluff)? Give example hands that can do that
From 5% plus - remember that I need more than 50% fold equity to do that. Playable hands that block villian's value range like A5s and KJs. DON'T DO IT VS RECS OR MANIACS (or nits of course).
93
Why can I use a small 4-bet sizing vs a polorised range?
Because the polorized 3-bettor (BB for example) will fold his trash right away, I attack the trash.
94
In general, what's the difference between the ranges of 4-betting in position and oop and why?
In position: more blocker oop: more equity -when I 4-bet OOP it's more likely that villain will call, when I'm In position it's more likely that villain will 5-bet jam (so i want to block his jamming range).
95
4 betting - the shorter we are...
The lighter we go for value, so we can add more bluffs. 100BB deep we have only KK+ as value so we hardly can add any bluffs.
96
4-betting - the earlier the position...
the stronger our 4-bet bluffs should be

What are typical mistakes people do preflop when defending the BB?
1. Overplaying Axo hands vs bigger open raises 2. Underdefending multiway (especially with offsuit connected hands) 3. Shortstack fallacy - will be explained later on 4. Not understanding why defend wider vs a fish
113
What should I consider when defending preflop the BB?
1. RFI % 2. Opener's position 3. Is he a fish/reg? (vs fish defend wider) 4. His fold to 3-bet stat (if it exist) - for example if his fold to a 3-bet high, he might be opening looser to we may want to defend wider, or 3-bet him more. 5. Postflop stats - vs an aggressive opponent, let go of borderline hands So, for example, if I have the stat that someone opens 20% from UTG (which should open 15%) then he's essentially playing MP range, or vice versa, if someone opens 15% from MP, then he's playing UTG range.
114
What's the shortstack fallacy when defending BB preflop?
"But we are so short, we can't defend that much anymore" -In reality, The shorter I get, the better I realize my equity -I get barreled off my equity more often when I'm deeper, because 10BB deep, I check/jam way more often with a decent hand (pairs, oesds, fds, overcards+gutshot)
115
Is it possible to have equity realization of more than 100%?
Of course. If both players are all in, they both have 100% equity realization. But if not, then most of the time one player will have range/nut/position advantage, which will make his realization over 100%, and then other player will have equity realization of less than 100%
116
What's the relation between equity, ev, and equity realization?
EV = equity * EQR
117
Why should I call tighter preflop vs an aggressive player?
Because my equity realization will be lower - an aggressive player will barrel a lot and push me off my equity
118
When playing deep, there's an open (2BB) and 2 calls, what hands do I want to defend? What do I do vs a 3BB open?
Hands which can make a flush/straight, so almost all suited hands (except the absolute worst ones like 94s,83s,72s), and lots of offsuit hands that can flop a straight (even 86o and maybe even 75o). VS 3BB open raise defend way tighter: get rid of disconnected low suited connectors, and bad offsuit one gapper hands.
119
When we play 'more loose' or 'tighter' vs,for example, a fish or an aggressive reg, How do I do that in practice?
Take the default range and either add hands that are close to the cusp, or remove hands that are on the cusp of playability.
120
What's the call to action for the defend BB section?
1. Print the ranges and use them in game 2. Create myself my BB def range vs every position 3.focus on my BB defend for the next 14 days, get used to defending loose in the right spots, and defend tighter on the right spots.
121
Why are we playing more pots vs recreational players?
We have a higher equity realization: thanks to the mistakes they do, we make the most money against them
122
The shorter we get, the ____ we realize our equity
better
123
We can realize our equity better as a shortstack because....?
We get barreled off our hand less frequently
124
Why is equity realization important?
We need to consider how often we realize our current equity, to determine if we have a profitable continue
125
What are typical mistakes when squeezing?
1. Wrong selection of hands, for example when squeezing vs UTG open and MP flat, our range should be much stronger vs vs CO open and BU flat 2. Not considering the additional players types (if there's a rec i don't want to blot up the pot with T9s since the fish can call with dominating hands like KTo and ATo) 3. Not being able to recognize good spots to overbluff 4. Using stats not properly 5. Never bluffing from BB (with a more aggressive image I'm going to get paid with my premiums),
126
Do I need to have bluffing squeeze range in soft games with many fish?
NOPE!! Just increase my squeeze range linearly and go thinner for value
127
What should I consider when deciding if to squeeze?
Opener's RFI % and position cold caller(s) range- a big Vpip to rfi gap (bigger than 8%) means he's flatting hands he's not supposed to flat with, so he's likely a rec, so I should go for value only and not bet polorised.
128
In a multiway pot preflop, what ranges are the most important to consider and why?
The opener and cold-caller. Ben saw only 1-2 times in his entire career that the third caller flatted AA/KK. So for the additional callers we usually have a lot of fold equity
129
How should I consider whether to rejam or not if the preflop pot is multiway?
Just use the base push ranges: It's true that I have less fold equity (as there are multiple players already in the pot) but the odds are better anyways (the callers' chips)
130
Let's say that TT/JJ/AQ is in my squeeze/defend vs a 4 bet, but I feel that the hand isn't good vs a tight opponent, what should i do? Does it mean I shouldn't 3-bet those hands to begin with?
It's perfectly fine to 3-bet/fold, even if in theory it's a pure call. Go with my guts and don't risk my tourney life deep sv a range of QQ+. This doesn't mean I shouldn't have 3-bet. If I 3-bet JJ and make KQ,AQo,A5s fold, then like, even A5s has 30% equity against my hand.
131
How far did Ben squeeze CO open and BU call? How wide did he go vs UTG+1 open and LJ calls as HJ and why?
He squeezed with K5s lol As HJ there are 4 more players to act, so he considered squeezing KJs (eg he called because he wanted the fish in, but he could squeeze).
132
At what spot would Ben "go crazy" and add many hands when squeezing, and why?
Opener that is too wide and a caller with a big pfr/vpip gap, the opener opens too many hands so he has a weak range, ben would heavily overbluff in this spot.
