What is the basic definition of power?
A affects B in a nontrivial manner contrary to B’s interests

What is legitimate power?
- This comes from the belief that a person has the formal right to make demands, and to expect others to be compliant and obedient
- The managers position and role give him power over their subordinates inline with their supervisory role and the organisations rule of conduct
What is reward power?
This results from one person’s ability to compensate another for compliance.
What is coercive power?
This comes from the belief that a person can punish others for noncompliance
What is information power?
This results from a person’s ability to access and control the information that others need to accomplish something.
What is expert power?
This is based on a person’s high levels of skill and knowledge
What is referrent power?
This is the result of a person’s perceived attractiveness, worthiness and right to others’ respect: admiration and seeking approval
What is ecological power?
- Leader directs how a task is organised and car alter a group’s working physical environment
- Control over the pychiscal and technological enviornment
