How is power defined?
The rate of doing work, or the rate at which one form of energy is converted to another.
How is reactive power defined?
The rate at which energy is stored by and then released to the circuit.
What are the other named for Power?
Real power, true power, and active power.
What are the other names for reactive power?
Quadrature power, and wattless power.
What is apparent power?
This will be the combined power of the circuit, it is found by multiplying the circuit current by the voltage.
What is the key difference between the two types of reactive power?
The energy exchanges take place at opposing times in the electrical cycle, i.e 180 degrees apart.
How is reactive power symbolized and what is it measured in?
Reactive power is Q_x(L or C) and is measured in volt-amperes reactive, or VARs.
How is apparent power symbolized and what is it measured in?
Apparent power is S and is measured in voltamperes or VA.
When constructing a power triangle, the altitude is always placed on the right hand side, what quantity does this side represent?
Reactive power, positive when inductive and negative when capacitive.
What is a power factor?
The ratio of true power to apparent power.
How is the phase angle in a a power triangle determined?
By taking the cosine of the power factor.
What is measured by a wattmeter?
True power only.
