stand off beween soviet and west = communist vs capitalist, threats of nucleur attacks from soviet
- many soviet republics declared interdependace

- they failed to take into account large numbers of different ethnic groups
- their fave groups became government, so ethnics would fight eachother and not the eu

eg: uk and argentinian claims on falkland lslands

  • seperaratism = nation wants to break away from soverign state eg: black crristians in south sudan leave arabs in north
  • transnational movement of terrorist and extremist activity = turkey and syria border, smuggling of oil, weapons and military supplies
  • contested maritime boundary = disagreement of contro of oceans eg: greenland and russia both claim portion of artic international waters
