Vision for change

A

a desired or future state in which the organisation will be after a change has been implemented
NOT the same as a corporate vision statement
IS the desired or future state the organisation will be in AFTER a change has been implemented
IS the WHY of the change
Informs why the business should move on from the past
Creates a new direction for the future
Provides the organisation with a ‘picture’ of what the future business will look like after the change has been implemented
Provides a sense of being and enduring purpose for a business
Should be seen as a guiding document that articulates:
Reason – to understand and explain the need for change
Motivation – to inspire and set a goal to work towards

Strategic Planning

A

Defines the overall purpose and goal of a business and determines HOW results will be achieved
Process of establishing direction where priorities are set, resources are allocated, and operations strengthened
Should consider three key aspects of the change:
Content – this refers to what needs to change. It could be the structure, system, technology, processes, products, services or socio-cultural aspects of the business
Process – a plan for how to achieve the change. It shows how the change will be implemented and the direction it will take
People – those impacted by the change. This is the human element of the change and includes people’s mindset, emotional reaction, behaviour, engagement and the cultural dynamics impacted by the change
Outlines the characteristics of the change, tactics for implementing the change and the risks associated with the change.
Creating a plan for change will accelerate the change and increase the chance of success.

Consultants

A

a professional who provides expert advice in a particular area to a business
External experts hired by a business to examine efficiency and effectiveness
Have a range of knowledge, skills and expertise and provide advice, recommendations and suggestions to address an issue
Identify problems and develop strategies to implement effective change
Assistance to a post-maturity business might be:
* Find opportunities to differentiate a business form its competitors
* Examine a business’s processes to find improvements that will assist future growth
* Complete a cost-benefit analysis to determine opportunities for growth
* Determine strategies to regain market share
ways to reduce costs –by downsizing operations.

Professional Services

A

providers of expert knowledge in a particular field to a business
Offer specific knowledge to a business and are experts in their field
Different from a consultant (who only offers advice) as they are accountable for their actions
Professional service providers include:
* Lawyers – experts on legal matters. Lawyers could represent a business in the post-maturity stage on matters such as bankruptcy filings or restructure a company structure.
* Accountants – experts on financial matters. A business in the post-maturity stage could seek the services of an accountant for insolvency or business recovery.
