Basic differences; Normative vs. Informative
In summary, social conformity is a type of social influence that results in a change of behavior or belief in order to fit in with a group. The two types of social conformity are normative conformity and informational conformity. Normative conformity occurs because of the desire to be liked and accepted. Informational influence is private acceptance.

What are the differences of Deindividuation and Emergent Norm Theories of Crowd Behavior
Deindividuation; in typical crowd situations, when put into certain situations, removing ones personal identity causes loss of self and general values and beliefs, which can lead to antisocial behavior, frees individual of normal social behavior. Emergent Norm theory; there are appropriate actions taken, and when an individual acts apon a situation and is seen as appropriate, others in that situation will fall into line. Seeing that what they are doing is normal and acceptable. “One of us” type of attitude.
Milgram; What comparisson do you see between Milgrams Agentic state and the notion of Heuristic Processing
“The essence of obedience consists in the fact that a person comes to view themselves as the instrument for carrying out another person’s wishes, and they therefore no longer see themselves as responsible for their actions. Explain The difference between Milgram and Gamson in therms of Social Impact Theory (Obedience & Rebellion)
Gamson; People can rebel against unjust authority. Aim: was to encourage people to rebel against unjust authority. But refused to use their video.
Milgram; Authority demands clash with conscience.
Electric shock experiments, Authority and legitimacy causes one to keep following orders despite unwillingness to do so.
- Strength – This could be of the message or of the person who is trying to make others conform.
- Immediacy- This could be of Physical or Psychological condition.
- Number – The number of those trying to make other conform. It is easier for a group to sway an individual than the other way round.
What similarities exist in the process of Propaganda & Indoctrination?
Propoganda;
- Creation of arousal or threat. (Emotion) -Tries to take you to a state where you “can’t cope”
- Recommendation (Provision of coping)
Indoctrination; a process by which an authority attempts to impress upon a target audience a non-factual idea or set of ideas reinforced by the emotional appeal that to disagree makes one evil or selfish or hateful or some other demonizing appellation.
