How do you operate the Beacon 406S & 406SE on Water?

A

(1) Removed from the aircraft and place in the raft. 

(2) Attach cord to the side of the raft. 

(3) Throw the portable radio beacon into the water. The antenna will automatically erect, and transmit within 5 minutes.

How do you operate the Beacon 406S (bigger one) on Land?

A

(1) Erect antenna by breaking the water soluble bands. 


(2) Remove the plastic bag under the lanyard and place the lower end of the portable radio beacon into the bag.

(3) Fill the bag with sufficient impure water (or tea, coffee, thin soup or urine) to cover the holes in the side of the portable radio beacon to activate the battery. 


(4) Keep the portable radio beacon in a vertical position.

A

(1) Erect antenna by breaking the water – soluble bands. 


(2) Turn the rotary switch on the base to XMT (transmit) position. 


(3) Keep the portable radio beacon in a vertical position at the hight point possible.

  • pass the life Jacket over the head
  • pass the tape around waist and clip
  • pull strap to tighten
  • pass strap between legs and tie to waist strap at the back
