What is the human genome project?
It was an international effort to:
Map and sequence the entire human genome
Determine the order of all 3.2 billion bases
Identify all genes, whilst understanding each of their functions
What are the ethical issues associated with the human genome project?
If medication won’t work due to no suitable medication for the individuals genome, so no cure, this may be PSYCHOLOGICALLY DAMAGING
If research gives rise to new drugs, they will be initially very expensive and therefore likely to not be available to public healthcare. This creates a TWO TIER HEALTHCARE SYSTEM.
Patiently may be DISCRIMINATED AGAINST if insurance companies or workplaces have information that they are likely to develop incapacitating diseases, and may refuse them job offers or insurance.

A group of similarly structured cells, which work together in order to carry out a particular function.
