Using per label instructions to treat an injury illness or disease.
Misuse
Mistakenly taking more than is recommended to treat and injury, illness or disease
Abuse
Deliberately taking more than is recommended or taking for purposes other than treating an injury illness or disease
Side effects
An unwanted physical or mental effect caused by the drug
Tolerance and dependence
When drug used repeatedly the body develops tolerance to it, where the user needs more for the original effect
Withdrawal
If user becomes dependent and stops taking no drug they will experience negative side effects.
Dopamine
A neurotransmitter the helps control the brains reward and pleasure centers
Under normal conditions
Chemical dopamine travels between brain cells producing pleasurable sensations
On drugs
Cells release extra dopamine, causing a stronger signal
After repeated drug use
brain cells lose receptors for domaine becoming less able to process the chemical. The pleasure signals weaken
Psychoactive drug
(Mood altering drug)- chemical taut affects brain activity
Antagonism
Occurs when each drugs effect is canceled out or reduced by the other.
Synergism
Occurs when drugs interact to produce greater effects than those that each drug would produce alone.

A psychoactive drug that slows brain and body reactions
Stimulants
A drug that speeds up activities of the central nervous system
Hallucinogens
A drug that distorts perception thought and mood
Marijuana
