Q

what is dentin?

  • general
  • mineral content
  • function
A

forms the majority of the dental tissue

composed of 70% minerals

it is softer and more flexible than the enamel and will protect it

16
Q

What does EOTRH syndrome stand for?

A

Equine odontoclastic tooth resorption and hypercementosis

17
Q

What is EOTRH syndrome?

A

The exact cause is undetermined (could be bacterial), affects the roots and cuases them to break down, but at the same time cementum is formed around the roots, gibing larger roots on X-rays

maxillary incisors are most often affected

18
Q

What are the different forms of malocclusions?

A

offset bite

parrot mouth

sow mouth

19
Q

What diseases can affect the canine teeth?

A

they can be displaced

they can be incompletely erupted, also known as blind

too long - causing injuries

calculus, tartar

infeciton

trauma

20
Q

What are wolf teeth?

A

the first premolar teeth - not all horses have them

21
Q

When would you remove a wolf tooth?

A

if it is displaced

blind

fractured above the alveolus

if there is any inlammation or pain

of it is too large

22
Q

The wolf teeth does not contribute to mastication, so how can we see if a horse has a problem with them?

A

riding problems- painful with the bridle

23
Q

What are the cheek teeth problems that can occur?

A

overgrowth

supernumerary teeth

to large spacing between the teeth, collecting feed - diastema

fracure

infundibular caries

periapical infection

24
Q

How does overgrowth of teeth look like?

A

they get a wavy appearance, partis sticking out that can damage the mucosa

25
Q

What is diastema (betwwen teeth) causing?

A

when there is a change in the angulation and a gap between the teeth are formed, they can trap feed - caries and infections
