  1. Schools operate like private businesses
  2. Staff increasingly have performance targets e.g. performance-
    related pay (only getting a pay rise based on
    grades/attendance figures etc.)
  3. Schools often have a marketing team to attract new students,
    just as companies would
  4. A focus on greater efficiency and profitability e.g. large class
    sizes, teachers working extra hours and sponsorship by local
    businesses
  5. Schools are able to opt out of LEA control and manage
    themselves
  6. We’ve seen this already through the introduction of Academies
