Probability Flashcards
(9 cards)
What is an experiment
A repeatable process that gives rise to a number of outcomes
What is an event
A collection of one/more outcomes
What is a sample space
The set of all possible outcomes
When estimating using interpolation
We are assuming that
the class is continuous when we interpolate, and that the probability of being exactly equal to any
individual value is negligible.
Mutually exclusive events
Have no outcomes in common, P(AUB) = P(A)+P(B)
P(ANB) = 0 (Intersection is the empty set)
Independent events
When one event doesn’t affect the other
P(A)xP(B) = P(ANB)
Conditional for independent events
P(A|B)=P(A|B’)
Addition formula for events
P(AUB) = P(A) + P(B) - P(ANB)
Multiplication formula
P(B|A) = P(BNA)/P(A)
