PROCEDURES OF HERBAL BASED HARD SOAP

Question 1

Preparation of Lye Solution

25 g NaOH, add it 60 mL of distilled water while stirring, allow solution to cool to around 40 C

Preparation of Decoction

collect fresh leaves, boil 50 g of leaves in 100 mL distilled water; 15 mins, strain the decoction and allow to cool

Mixing and Saponification

heat 100 ml of coconut oil in 500 ml beaker until 40-45 C, slowly pour the cooled solution into warm oil while stirring, stir for 20-30 mins until it thickens, add cooled decoction with optional fragrance and colorants

Molding and Curing

Pour soap mixture into molds and smooth, sit for 24 hours, after solidification; remove soap and cut into bars, allow soap to cure for 4-6 weeks to ensure complete saponification and drying
