Properties of Covalent, Covalent molecular/network, Ionic and Metallic compounds. Flashcards

1
Q

What are properties of covalent molecular substances?

A

Non-conductors of electricity, low melting and boiling points, liquids or gases at room temperature, solids are soft and easy to mold, only the polar molecules are soluble in water.

Q

What are properties of ionic compounds?

A

Hard and brittle, high melting and boiling points, solids at room temperature (unless dissolved), can conduct electricity in a solution or as a liquid, soluble in water but not petroleum.

Q

What are the properties of metals?

A

Shiny, hard, sonorous(can make sound), compact/rigid shape, high melting and boiling points, conducts heat and electricity, malleable(can be flattened into sheets without breaking) and ductile(can be stretched into wires).
