state the colour of iodine and state

5
Q
what are the properties of halogens
A
- Melting and boiling points increase down the group: Mp and Bp increase as the relative molecular mas increases. As the relative molecular mass increases, the intermolecularforces of atraction become stronger, so more enegy has to be put in to overcome these stronger forces of attraction
- Poor ocnducters of heat & electricity (NON-METALS)
6
Q
What is the trend in reactivity
A
- When halogens react, they form 1- ions
- if it is in a shell closer to the nucleus it is more strongly attracted to the nucleus
- If an element is more close to the nucleus, they have a stronger tendency to gain a electron
