SCCP
Skinny Client Control Protocol
Used for communication between voice gateways and endpoints. Cisco proprietary.
SIP
Session Initiated Protocol
Used for communication between voice gateways and endpoints
RTP
Real-Time Protocol
Streaming protocol for voice traffic that works hand in hand with UDP. Provides jitter free sequenced and multiplex communication. Port ranges are 16,384 to 32,767
RTCP
Real-Time Control Protocol
Provides packet count, delay, and jitter information for RTP.
H.323
Mostly for communication between gateways. Peer-to-peer protocol, configuration is stored on client.
MGCP
Mostly for communication between gateways. Centralized configuration stores.
SRST
Survivable Remote Site Telephony - Survivability mode, if a WAN connection to a remote site goes down, the router manages the call directly to the PSTN and provides basic telephony services to 911 or between the remote site.
