Provisionals Flashcards
(14 cards)
What is the function/purpose for acrylic provisionals?
Pulpal protection, positional stability, occlusal function, esthetics, diagnostic tool
What are clinical requirements for acrylic provisional restorations?
Occlusion, contacts, margins and contours, strength and retention, cost and ease of use, clinical efficiency
What will produce the external tissue form?
Block carve, over impression or vacuform, or preformed shells
What will produce the internal tissue form?
Direct intraoral reline or extroral model
What are some characteristics of acrylic?
it is self polymerizing, generates heat and distorts
What preformed matrix becomes part of final restoration?
Polycarbonate crown forms
What criteria do you use to evaluate final provisional restorations?
- Occlusion
- Contacts, embrasures, line angles, ridges
- Marginal Integrity
- Incisal height and thickness
- Finish and polish
When do clear crown formers work well?
For restorations of large composite restorations on anterior teeth, since you can cure through them
What materials are in metal crown formers?
Aluminum, tin silver, nickel chromium
To smooth edges of metal crown former, what do you use?
Stone bur
When using metal crown former, what is gingival blanching a sign of?
Overextended margins and/or bulky contours
What are examples of self-polymerizing resin?
Poly- methyl or ethyl or vinylethyl methacrylate
What are examples of Bis-acylci composites used for provisionals?
Protemp, Maxitemp, SmartTemp
