-serotonin syndrome can occur, report to HCP

-S: sweating, hot, fever
-R:rigid muscles,restlessness,agitation
I: increased HR,tachycardia

MAOI Antidepressant names

MAOI what to avoid
-avoid taking other anti depressants
-avoid high tyromine foods (wine, cheese, sausage, chocolate)
-avoid over the counter drugs, no antacid, NSAIDS, acetaminophen
Atypical Antidepressant names
-trazodone
-bupropion
Atypical antidepressant side effects
-trazodone puts in sleepy state, take at night
-bupropion never crush or chew

-haloperidol
-clozapine
-Ziprasidone

Haloperidol function, side effects
-for schizophrenia, helps control motor movements
-causes NMS, neuroleptic malignant syndrome= life threatening
-NMS Signs: high fever, sweating, change in mental status,muscle rigidity, tremors
-NMS signs need to hold drugs, access and stay with client, notify HCP
Clozapine function and side effects
-for schizophrenia
-decreases WBC, increase infection risk, sore throat
Ziprasidone function and side effects
-for schizophrenia and acute bipolar mania
-can cause hypotension, monitor widening/increasing QT intervals
Anxiolytics types
-for anxiety
-benzodiazipine

-ends in pam and lam
-highly addictive
-sedative, take at night
-decrease BP AND RR, low and slow
-avoid valerian root

Antidote:flumazenil (pam and lam “flu” out of benz)

-anti anxiety meds
-sedative
-lasts long in body compared to benzos, longer to kick in and out

-not a sedative
-takes a long time to kick in “bus”
-for anti anxiety

-Lithium
-carbamezopine
-valperic acid

-LITH
-L: higher than 1.5=deadly
-I: increase fluids and Na ( hold when dehydrated and na lower than 135
T: toxic signs (excess urination, extreme thirst, vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, jerks)
H: hold NSAIDS, decreases renal flow
