Definition of Biopsychosocial
States that physical illness is caused by a complex interaction of biological, psychological and sociocultural factors.
Heart Disease
Reduction in blood flow through the coronary arteries, which supply the heart with blood.
Artheriosclerosis
Gradual narrowing of the coronary arteries; the primary cause of heart disease.
Risk factors for heart disease
Smoking, Diabetes, High cholesterol levels, High Blood pressure, Little Physical activity
Type A personality
Patterns behaviour associated with increased risk of heart attack.

Type B personality
- Less Hurried
- Less competitive
- Less easily angered
Hostility
Persistent negative attitude marked by cynical, untrusting thoughts, feelings of anger, overtly aggressive actions. Very highly associated with heart attack risk.
Rumination
Engaging in repetitive and negative thinning about some event.
Cancer
Malignant cell growth, which may occur in many organ system in the body.
Does Stress cause Cancer?
No; but it is associated with increased risk of getting it; lower survival rates and high mortality.

Excessive eating, genetics, inadequate exercise, set point.

Diets don’t work and change lifestyle habits
Exercise
Regular exercise is associated with increased longevity, Less heart disease, avoid obesity, Less risk of some cancers, Buffer against stress, Improves mood, self-esteem, work efficiency, Reduces tension and anxiety. (7)
