Limbic system
a group of brain structures that regulate basic emotions such as fear and rage and drives such as hunger and sex.
Amygdala
2 lima-bean-sized neural clusters in the limbic system; emotion
Hypothalamus
lies below the thalamus; directs several maintenence activties, helps govern the endocrine system, linked to emotion
Hippocampus
located in the limbic system; helps process for storage explicit memories of facts and events
Cerebral cortex
inticate fabric of interconnected cells convering the cerebral hemisphere; the bodys ultimate control/ info processing center
Frontal lobes
portion of the cerebral cortex behind the forhead; speaking, muscle movements, making plans, and judgements
Parietal lobes
portion of the cerebral cortex at the top/ rear of the head; recieves sensory input for touch and body postion
Occipital lobes
portion of the cerebral cortex at the back of the head; recieve info from visual feilds
Temporal lobes
portion of the cerebral cortex above the ears; auditory areas, each recieving info from the opposite ear
Motor cortex
an area of the rear and frontal lobes that controls voluntary movements
Somatosensory cortex
an area at the front of the parietal lobes that registers and processes body touch and movement sensations
