Describe the effect of SSRIs?
A
- they inhibit the reabsorption of seratonin
- this increases the amount of seratonin in the synapse which increases the stimulation of the post-synaptic neurone
- this decreases OCD symptoms

What are SSRI’s?
A
a type of antidepressants

What is an alternative drug that is oftern used alongside SSRIs?
A
Benzodiazapine (BZ)

Describe the effect of BZ?
A
- BZ binds to GABA neurone receptors which occupies the receptors so other neurotransmitters can’t bind
- this has a calming effect on the brain therefore reducing OCD symptoms
