What is CBT??

A

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
Facing negative thought patterns and replacing them with positive thoughts.

Challenges irrational thoughts by making the person aware of them and how they aren’t usually true.

A

identifies & challenges automatic negative thoughts (of the world, the future & oneself). They will often be told to track their negative thoughts through journalling.

Why is the cognitive approach to treating depression not applicable to everyone??

A

Sturmey (2005) suggested that any type of talking therapy is not suitable for people with learning difficulties because the social/concentration skills are needed for the therapy.
