what is OCD?
a condition characterised by omissions (such as recurring thoughts or images) and complications (repetitive behaviour such as handwashing)
The DSM-5 recognises OCD and a range of other related disorders - what are they?
trichitillomania
hoarding disorder
excoriation disorder
what do the disorders recognised alongside OCD have in common?
repetitive behaviour accompanied by obsessive thinking
what is tichitillomania?
compulsive hair pulling
what is hoarding disorder?
compulsive gathering of possession and an inability to part with them regardless of value
what is excoriation disorder?
compulsive skin-picking
there are two elements to compulsive behaviours - what are they?
repetitive, feel compelled to repeat behaviour
