The uterus lining builds up again.-From day 4 to day 14, into a thick spongy layer full of blood vessel, ready to receive a fertilised egg
What is stage 3 of the menstrual cycle
An egg develops and is released from the ovary at day 14- this is called ovulation
What happens in stage 4 of the menstrual cycle?
The wall is maintained for about 14 days until day 28.
What is the role of FSH
Secreted by the pituitary gland
Matures the egg within the ovaries
Triggers the production of oestrogen by the ovaries
What is the role of Oestrogen
Produced in the ovaries
Causes the growth of the uterus lining
Triggers the production of LH and restricts the release of more FSH
What is the role of LH
Luteinisng Hormone
Produced by the pituitary gland
Stimulates the release of an egg at day 14
What is the role of Progesterone
Produced in the ovaries
Maintains the lining of the uterus
Inhibits the release of LH and FSH
What is the main reproductive hormone and what does it do?
For men
Testosterone.
* Produced by the testes and stimulates sperm production
What is the main reproductive hormone in woman and where is it produced?
And what does it do
Oestrogen

What is the menstrual cycle
The monthly cycle of physiological changes that occur in females, involving the shedding of the uterus and ovulation
Describe the events of the menstrual cycle

An egg is released from one of the ovaries (ovulation)
If the egg is fertilised pregnancy may occur if not the egg and the uterus lining are shed causing bleeding
What is ovulation
The release of a mature egg from the ovaries which occurs approximately every 28 days
