QnA Flashcards
(10 cards)
1.When examining rock layers, where do you find the oldest material? Why is this the case?
the oldest material is found at the bottom because they get covered up by newer layers of strata
- Why is the geologic time scale helpful for describing Earth’s history?
the geological time scale is helpful because it allows us to see in sections of time more clearer then a regurlar timeline would
- Fossils of trees were discovered in a sedimentary rock layer
based on the evidence I can conclude before the sedimentary rock layer was formed the terrain was all water where marine life lived before it became a forest
- What information might a scientist learn when studying Earth’s geological history?
A scientist might learn how landforms were made, patterns of animal movement, plant life, presence of water, volcanic activity, etc.
- If you were to create a model of fossil layers, what would you want to include to make your model accurate?
You would want to include several distinguishable layers with different items to show the variety of organisms in each strata layer.
- In which rock layer did the earthquake happened
Before layer x was deposited
- what can you conclude from the diagram below
that trilobites and dinosaurs did not exist at the same time
- The illustration below can conclude
The law of superposition tells me which is the oldest and which is the youngest.
- In which layer did the basalt enter
The intrusion was after the limestone was deposited
- why don’t fossils have skeletons at the bottom layers?
The first type of organisms that lived hadn’t evolved a skeleton yet until after these layers had formed
