what is the nature of reality
epistemological
what is the nature of our knowledge of things/reality and what is the relationship between the knowledgeable/what we can learn and what can be known
methodological
how can one acquire knowledge
positivism
philosophy in which people believe the goal of knowledge is only to describe what people experience, and that science should only study that which is measurable. Anything that is not measurable or experienced is irrelevant.
interpretative/constructivist
focuses on understanding how people build their social world, define situations and act. more subjective
Ethnography
purpose is to study and analyse a group of people
Phenomenology
focus is what people experience about a phenomenon and how they interpret the experiences
Ethnomethodology
tries to find out how people understand their everyday activities and interpret their social environment to behave in socially acceptable ways
