QUALITY CONTROL Flashcards
(26 cards)
are values which are far from the main set of values due to wild errors
OUTLIERS
errors in quality control; fundamental basis of statistical analysis.
VARIATIONS
indicates a gradual loss of reliability in the test system
TREND
ability of a method to measure only the component desired w/out interference of some substances present in the sample
SPECIFICITY
range of analyte values that a method can directly measure on the specimen without any dilution, concentration or other pretreatment
ANALYTICAL MEASUREMENT RANGE (AMR)
the ability of a method to determine the exact value of the substance of interest. It is the closeness of the value obtained with the true value
ACCURACY
- Personnel
- Established laboratory policies
- Complete laboratory procedural manual
ANALYTICAL PHASE
any deviation away from an expected result due to a definite cause
SYSTEMATIC
errors in reporting, typing, writing
CLERICAL
- Value reporting, turnaround time
- Preventive maintenance of equipment and reagents
- Patient satisfaction
POST-ANALYSTICAL PHASE
a solution composed of several known constituent’s w/c can be run simultaneously w/ the test to check the accuracy of the result
CONTROL SOLUTION
ability of a method to detect and measure even the smallest amount of the particular substance tested for
SENSITIVITY
Abrupt changes in the control mean
SHIFT
- will group any series of measurement in the same sample in a cluster around the mean in a bell shaped curve
GAUSSIAN CURVE
the degree by w/c the method is easily repeated
PRACTICABILITY
the ability of the method to give repeated results on the same
sample tat agree with one another
PRECISION / REPRODUCIBILITY
TYPES OF ERROR:
any deviation away from an expected result due to unpredictable cause
RANDOM
comparison of individual patient results throughout the day or week with computer detection of changes from earlier individual patient results
DELTA CHECK
- plotted with the accumulated differences from the mean of individual values with the middle being zero
- also referred as the CUSUM graph
CUMULATIVE SUM GRAPH
a statistical process used to monitor and evaluate the analytical process that produces patient results
QUALITY CONTROL
solution of known characteristics and of known value. It is composed of one known constituent only and used as basis or reference for calculation of the value of the unknown
STANDARD SOLUTION
an all-inclusive / comprehensive system monitoring the accuracy of test results where all steps before, during, and after the testing process are considered
QUALITY ASSURANCE
- patients identification
- specimen information, collection, and handling
PRE-ANALYTICAL PHASE
- the most commonly used histogram in QC
- also referred to as Levey-Jennings chart, S-L/J chart, Dot chart
SHEWHART-LEVEY JENNINGS CHART
