Quantitative chemistry Flashcards
What is relative formula mass?
The sun of the relative atomic masses of the atoms in Mr
What happens when mass increases during a reaction?
One of the reactants is a gas and Magnesium + oxygen -> Magnesium Oxide
What happens when a mass decreases during a reaction?
One of the products is a gas and has escaped and Calcium Carbonate-> carbon dioxide + calcium oxide
What happens when a limiting reactant is completely used up?
It limits the amount of product that are made (less moles of product)
What are chemical measurements?
It can determine whether the mean value falls within the range of uncertainty of the result
How to calculate chemical measurements
1) Calculate Mean
2) calculate the range of the results
3) eating of uncertainty in mean would be half the range
What is the concentration of solutions?
It’s measured in mass per given volume of solution and so greater mass = higher concentration and greater volume = lower concentration
How to use moles to balance equations
Convert the masses in grams to amounts in moles and convert the number of moles to a simple whole number ratios
What is the amounts of substances in equations?
Chemical equations show the number of moles reacting and the number of moles made
What are moles? (Quantitive chem)
The chemical amount (it’s measured in moles (mol)) the mass of 1 mole of a substance in grams = relative formula mass
What is the conservation of mass and balanced symbol equations?
It represent chemical reactions and have the same number of atoms of each element on both sides of an equation
What is the conservation of mass?
It’s the mads of the products that equals the mass of reactants so no atoms are lost or made durning a Chemical reaction
