Quantitative Research design Flashcards

Q

Experimental (RCT)

rqrs?

to determine causality if must be demonstrated that? 3

A

Requires: randomization, control group, manipulation or treatment

To determine causality it must be demonstrated that:
1. casual effect variables associated

  1. cause precedes effect (cause comes before outcome)(we don’t want the cause being occurring from anything)
  2. relationship not explained by another variable

Q

Quasi-Experimental

A

Used in situations where full experimental design is not possible

  1. Will have a control group with treatment,
  2. Involves manipulation of IV
  3. Lacks randomization and/or control,
  4. May use a non-equivalent comparison group (not randomly selected)
  5. As a result one cannot make causal inferences.
