Q

How does a generator work

A

The force of the fluid on the blades spins (rotates) the rotor shaft of a generator. The generator, in turn, converts the mechanical (kinetic) energy of the rotor to electrical energy.

Q

what are some ways we transform energy from one form to another

A

battery(electricity) (chemical energy → electrical energy) Electric generator (kinetic energy or mechanical work → electrical energy) Electric heater (electric energy → heat) Fire (chemical energy → heat and light)

Q

how much of the electricity that is used in the US is gene rated by wind, solar, or other renewable energy?

A

Renewable energy generates over 20% of all U.S. electricity , and that percentage continues to grow.

Q

How has this( how much of the electricity that is used in the US is gene rated by wind, solar, or other renewable energy?)changed over the last ten years?

A

In the decade analyzed by Climate Central, solar went from generating less than half a percent of the nation’s electricity to producing nearly 4%. In that same period, wind grew from 4% to roughly 10.

10
Q

what is distributed generation

A

Distributed generation (also called on-site generation or decentralized generation) is a term describing the generation of electricity for use on-site, rather than transmitting energy over the electric grid from a large, centralized facility (such as a coal-fired power plant).
