Question 2 Flashcards
(10 cards)
How do we measure and quantify electricity
Electricity is measured in units of power called Watts, named to honor James Watt, the inventor of the steam engine. A Watt is the unit of electrical power equal to one ampere under the pressure of one volt.
what are the units we use to measure electrical energy consumption
The amount of electricity that a power plant generates or an electric utility customer uses is typically measured in kilowatthours (kWh). One kWh is one kilowatt generated or consumed for one hour.
how much does it cost to power your house each month?
452.89 in total, 112.39 for energy
what is the difference between energy and power
energy is the capacity of doing work and power is the time rate of doing work
how much power does a toaster use
900 W
how much power does a tv use
50 to 200 watts
how much power does a cell phone use
Charging your phone once per day uses 0.035 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per week, 0.15 kWh per month, and about 1.83 kWh per year.
can you read a power bill
yes
how can we reduce our electrical consumption or make it more efficient

how does electrical energy usage vary between countries
The largest energy consumers include Iceland, Norway, Canada, the United States, and wealthy nations in the Middle East such as Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. The average person in these countries consumes as much as 100 times more than those in some of the poorest countries.
